Similar to yesterday. Spent most of the time on the Starboard Go pottering in 10-15. It kicked in late for about 30 minutes, and got the FSW out, but could not really find my setup to get any speed... also conditions a bit hit and miss. I tried out a new fin I got for going fast, but I was spinning out alot, and I think it slowed me down. May be better with a smaller sail.

Hope others got out today... not the best day, but better than doing nothing!! Wink

Cheers,

Adrian

Was the wind up anywhere else? I sailed from about 3 until about 5 on the big starboard go. This is where I got hte kms in. Then about 5:15 until almost 6 on the JP FSW 92 as the wind kicked in pretty good for about 30 minutes.

Not sure if you guys can provide any advice, but I am having trouble sailing comfortably with teh FSW with the 6.2 unless I am fully powered up and reaching. I find that I am constantly having to lean forward to balance the board and take the load off the fin. This is obviously much worse with a small fin and yesterday I was using a 29cm slalom fin which is a little small for the 6.2. I thought it may be the sail as it is a new sail for me this season, but the sail feels great on the Starboard Go with a huge 54cm fin and heaps of area in the tail, and I can hang off the back of the board even when going up wind. I tried on the FSW mucking around with boom height, harness length, mast base position etc, and made it better but nowhere near as comfortable as my old slalom board. I am beginning to think that the sail is just a little too large for this type of board that is smallish and with soft rails so not much lateral grip from the board. Can anyone provide any advice on this situation? The board works much better with my 5.0 in strong wind. I think I just prefer the more locked in feel of a slalom style board. I enjoy the FSW in bump and jum when it is howling, but prefer a slalomish board in 15-20knots I think.

Cheers,

Adrian

Good work Adrian! At least there's one of us that got out today.

Hopefully Keef got out down at Sanctuary Point. Any sailing is better than no sailing, and I wish we had the same wind strength down there as we did yesterday.

got out dale but a bit dissapointing, lucky you guys didnt make the trip sat was abit over done with the 6/2 a 5/0 would have been great

adrian slalom boards have a flater rocker and with a slalom/fin your up and plainning off the fin much earlyer,a 30 venom is the smallest fin i would use with a 6/2 , my board is probably under 80lts and it takes a 4/6n/prs 20/fin and have had a 7/3 36 fin , i think all you need is the rite combination = board=sail=fin and try to sail with the max downhaul for the conditions, i wouldnt take my advise as gospel but it works for me , maybe you could do a post on seabreeze and sort it out

Thanks keef... I think it is as you say... wrong combination. I think perhaps straps forward could help also since I spend most of my time leaning forward. When I am powered up it seems to work OK, but the fin I was using was a slalomy small fin, and easily spins out in the chop. The 32cm I have seemed to work better, but it was a bit of a handful when going really fast with the 5.0m in 25-30, so I thought I would get something smaller that would hopefully allow me to break my 29knot limit. I have not managed to get into the 30s yet, and I would love to!!

The FSW is a really lively board. It rides over every little chop. It is great for jumping, as you only have to unweight it at the right time to get big air, but it is really quite a handful trying to get speed out of it in choppy conditions. I had been sailing the huge 180L starboard GO before getting this board out, and even in 20knot gusts, I think the starboard go was more cruisey than the FSW in the chop. In the FSW you are constantly getting air and having to manage the fin to prevent spinout with a slalomish fin.

I might put something up on Seabreeze just to get opinions from people using similar equipment.

Cheers,

Adrian

andrew looks like your doing fine and its a good idea to do a post on seabreeze,

you was saying  your teaching your wife and kid's to sail, here's a pic of where i sail, i had an injured hand and couldnt jibe ,in that whole area you can standup and ive got a few 31's+, the water is low enough to sail from one point and jump off  and jump back on if you have a look at the whole area on google earth you will find its worth the trip, well its wortha thought anywayWink

Sanctuary Point

Greetings from Hong Kong.

Nice sailing there Keef and Adrian. It looks like we can't keep Sanctuary Point a secret. I wouldn't worry too much as its not that likely the place will be over run with windsurfers compared to the number of fishermen down there.

I have sailed Sanctuary point several times before, so know it well. Have spent weekends down there, but a long time ago.

I have alsoe sailed swan lake down that way, and had some great sails there. There are a lot of great spots down south, but getting the time to get down there is the problem for me.

Cheers,

Adrian

Sanctuary Point was on the NSW Funboard circuit for 15 years until the locals stopped sailing. Not that much of a secret.

Always plenty of locals sailing down there each time I go. It's a different atmosphere from sydney - 50% of them are women!

I'll be there all weekend too - see you there Keef?
