Dear wind,

Just want to let you know that I was not impressed with your shennanigans today....First you teased us with a big blow overnight...then you spent the whole day hovering around 10-15 knots and giving the impression you were going to get bigger....The bursts you sent lasted no more than a few seconds.  Keep this up and we might need counselling!!!Yell

LOCATION:  INVERLOCH ANGLING CLUB

SAILORS:  EJ, Phil

GEAR:  Excite Ride, 38 mean fin, NP Excess 6.9

Experienced a bit of spin out today...I wonder if it was as a result of the fluky wind and not fully committing (ie leaning right out) because the wind would die very quicky.

JAK, you mentioned you had a few spin outs out the Mean Fins didn't you???  What did you do to fix it?

Rigged to small in a fading breeze today, still good to be on the water even if the Elwood beach was a smelly mess.

Great after work session in Elwood. Sailed with WindRider, Jman and Bondy and seriously had a ball. Wind was a bit light with 16-18kts when I started and to be sure rigged up the beast (7.5m V8), but for the first time hooked it up to the 105 Tabou, and it was just great (thanks Bondy for encouraging me).

When it increased a bit later WindRider and I did some dog fights for more than 15 mins and about 4 tacks (I actually managed to gybe through the turns to keep up with him when it countedCool).

Looking at the results I think the Alphas could have been better though, so back to the gybing practice, have to get rid of the single digit numbers through the turns).

Sailed with Mick at Inverloch. Hoping for some decent wind based on the forecast but was lucky to get 15 kts. Still, good to get some time on the water.

It was good to get the Futura 93 and 6.5m V8 back at Elwood. The wind was bit light at first with Jerry and then the runs with JAK was a bit more. It was great sailing flat out in the chop with JAK. The 2 V8s. Just like our beasts (Monaros). Got love the V8 power.

Drift, Jerry, Bondy, JAK and myself sailed at Elwood with 5.8m to 7.5m. I had the 6.5m and was spot on. I still have to post results for today and last Saturday, but JAK and I had some good down wind runs in the swell out the back over looking the city skyline. Both us pulled high 20s.

With regards to fin spin out, if it wasn't due to white water (i.e. air in the water), then its due to wrong type of fin for your setup. I use Starboards and the standard Drake fins spin out all the time at speed. I use Select fins and they are great. C4 are another great fin, but you have to order online.

I know I have said it before and never made down to Inverloch, but I should try and catch up with you guys and discuss setups etc, oh and to help us get back in the top ten. If the weekend looks like wind, let me know I will be there.

Well Mick, you know what happens when I do not go sailing with you - no wind.  I am looking at Friday or Monday off at this stage.  Sunday is looking reasonable.

My new C3 Venom seems really good on my Futura. You run them a few cm's larger than most fins though. No spinout as yet but only a couple of sessions using it so far.

Evan what size C3 did you get?

38cm & I'd like to get a 36cm for the flat water. 38cm is really nice with the 6.5m in the bay. Seems large but it works!

Have you read this Steve?

Great results from today WindRider, I didn't quite manage high 20s, but it sure felt like I was strapped to that Rocket, specially out the back going down wind in the big swell with you. Memorable moment was later when that big Cruise Ship departed and I was heading right at it flat out into the sunset Cool

Drift, I use a 46cm JP SuperSport fin with my JP XciteRide 135 (after I sheared off my 44cm that came with the board in a jump 500m out in the bayCry).

It now rarely spins out, but I was looking at some other options (ie Mean fin) to sail a shorter fin using that board in flat water.

I actually suffered from spin outs quite often before and found it was my stance issue by stretching the back knee too much and putting too much pressure on the fin sideways. This was even more so when I started with my smaller Tabou 105 with a shorter fin. I since adjusted my stance to put more pressure on the front foot and bend the back knee a bit more (to apply pressure from the top, rather than the side), which helped with spinouts and increased speed. It still happens here and then, in particular over jumps or up wind tacks, but I know what is at fault - me!

Agree with WindRider, we should get together, yarn over setups etc and pull some great results to get back into the top ten.

JAK, the fasted run (28.31knots max speed) was when I did a downwinder from the beach in front of the swimmers and the life saving club boat. It seams to be the best spot for speed at Elwood. Next time I'm trying the seat harness with that kit.

Evan, I have read that post. I some times sail with Ian Fox at Bono with the rest of the Bono crew. Foxy prototypes these fins and they work real well on Starboards.

WindRider, That must have been when we took off the last time after the gybe and I thought ...where the hell is he gone. Well done, I will keep that in mind. You didn't scare the swimmers did you, and the lifesavers didn't swear at you, sure?
