Pelican Point, WA, AU

A skunky start to September. Missed the morning wind faffing around trying to sort out accommodation for my Dad. Got to Peli after 4 to see it whitecapping. Wind disappeared as I rigged. Went for a long walk to get deep enough as the wind was dead onshore. Got planing twice. Plenty of light wind tacking practice.

I wasn't going to post this session (for obvious reasons) but since it will get us on the board I'll risk ridicule. I think I just scored 6 personal worsts!

I missed the best of the morning wind because I was helping an anteater eater dress for a fancy dress parade. I think that beats your excuse Mark! (We could start a 'best excuse for not going sailing' competition!)

When I did get to Peli it took 15 minutes to get a parking spot. Obviously UWA is in session. There were no windsurfers out, only kiters. In retrospect the windsurfers were all being smart and doing other more worthwhile things.

Then, because the wind was dropping I spent 15 minutes tossing up whether there was enough wind to bother rigging up and getting wet. It was sunny at least so I decided to take the plunge.

Isn't it amazing how quickly you forget how to rig a sail when it has been a while? That slowed me down a bit more as the wind dropped even further. It felt strange being alone in the rigging area at Peli. That has never happened before.

By the time I was ready the wind had dropped to about 5 knots. I toyed with the idea of packing up and going home but decided a waft around was better than no sailing at all (beats housework anyway!).

I sailed up and down for a bit. It was hard work with so little wind. No chance of enough wind for a water start. Barely enough even to beach start! It was a case of me holding the sail up. I had to resort to uphauling for the first time in about 18 months and only got planing ONCE. Briefly.

I ended up giving a lesson on tacking and gybing to a beginner who came along. He lives near Pinnaroo and is making good progress so maybe he will be a team member one day.

A disappointing session but least I got my new boom wet.

Great effort guys. And in such a cold weather, and disappointing wind. I was so close to another "personal Worst" session, but got sidetracked to a bus. meeting. Should be improving as from this  month (fingers crossed).

And in such a cold weather

Actually I think I felt warmer in my wetsuit out on the water than I have at home lately. I might have to wear my wetsuit about the house!

Nice work team, great to see us on the board so early in the month!

I woke up at 4:30 all prepared to do the dawny but the graphs didn't look promising... so I rolled over and went back to sleep.

Here's hoping for some improved conditions soon.
