Terrigal, NSW, AU

Wow, Nor easter are back, and the wind better than forecast, who would have thunk it.

terrigal, pretty slow. Excuses:

1. Mid man flu

2. sail too big

3. water too rough

4. rider too bad.

Anyway, was a nice short sail before it got too overpowered. CASL70, 7.5, 42 fin

CA70 and Maui TR8 7.6

Probably the Strongest NE I have sailed in September. Started off fairly light but then picked up rather nicely over at the islands. The water is currently quite deep so going through the Byron channel with a 46cm fin was possible. A fantastic day and only 4 of us out. (Cluffy, Dan and Ben)

This is the first time I have got my 70cm wide board over 30kts, So a board PB!

15-22 odd kts NE  Peel st Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU

7.5m Severne Overdrive with 115ltre Xcross + 95 rocket + 20 cm delta

Must be fitter than I think to hold the 7.5m for that time and not feel tired.. Could have had a 7m  others 35kgs heavier than me had smaller sails up..Still didn't make me go any faster..CryUndecided  I've been out about 3 or more times this week and that certainly helps!

Thought I'd get at least 28kts +..Dead flat water and good wind although the weed is very thick and still troubles with Delta..Yell

I bought some rubber stuff and stuck several layers on to fill in the gap at the front and thought that would fix it.. Trouble is it's a powerbox and you can't get it tight enough so the minute you hit some thick weed it pushes the fin back and leaves a 1/8" gap at the fonrt which catches weed etc and gets rid of any filler..Even tried Blutack - worked ok but lousy aerodynamics.. next step will be to make a wedge to go under the base in the fin box to allow me to tighten the front down.. maybe then I'll get some decent speeds.. ( or won't have any excuses anymore..EmbarassedLaughing)

Good fun sail if you didn't worry about the speed. Treid the 95 ltre with the big sail first time.I didn't think I'd be able to gybe it but I got all of them!Surprised They weren't pretty though..Wink

Frothie stepped on a nail and put a nasty hole in his foot but then went back out anyway..

Plenty out -Mick , Milsy , Frothie , Paul , Wayno, Pugs, + others..

I think Norah graph overreads about 5kts in a NE..

Beautiful but quick sail. Really good to get out in a Nor-easter, sunny and warm water. Bit up and down but still fun

Terrigal, NSW,

AU  A short blast at Terrigal in the washing machine produced by the N/E mixing with the E wind. Of course today l wish lcould do it again but l was too tired to muscle it yesterday. Still a bit of money in the bank for Bruce and l.

Exocet RS Formula, Mauisails TR8 12.0, VMG M75 - Wind NE 12-15 kts

Beautiful afternoon at Marmong.   Did some fishing with the kids then the wind filled in so rigged up the Formula gear and did some runs with Ian and Michael Babbage.   Hooked onto a few solid gusts downwind and let out a few yee-ha's! Happy to see the nor-easters back, just in time for a few days off work at Hawks Nest.

Sboardcrazy, I have the same problem here with weed under he lading edge. So far the best solution I have come up with is to remove the front 3 cms of the rubber and replace it with a leading edge build up of 5 min araldite. You need to spend a little time slowly filing it down to get it Goldilocks right - it has to touch the board pretty firmly but not so much as it dents the board. A piece of masking tape will wrapped around the leading edge of the Delta will give you the shape of the foil. If you knock it off at some stage gluing it back on with superglue seems to work too. Not particularly elegant I suppose but it's a cheap easy and quick solution.:-)

the problem sue is having with her delta is the powerbox factor

she will need to choc it up within the box to stop the fin from pushing back

we have had heaps of sucess by, fitting the fin, removing intial rubber, replacing with double sided tape, usually a couple of layers for the first third of the fin to make tight contact, been working sweet

others have used silicon, ect

Sorry my mistake - Sue does make that clear ,I should have read the post a little more thoroughly. I tried using a shim made of layers of Al foil just on the back edge of the box rather than the base - trapezoid shape of the PB meant that it worked well stopping that rotation if that is of any help :-)

Great shots Cluffy!

Thanks Fangmen. I'm looking forward to having the delta work properly.. They certainly cut through weed! Once I can pack the rear so the front doesn't come up I should be able to keep the rubber strips on and stop getting weed moustaches! Then I'll have no excuse for not getting 28kts +..Wink

Sue, you are dead right but I find you just need to get a little more creative with the excuses. Water too rough, wind too much/ little, fin had rough spot, not enough Downhaul are always a good start, but you can add in bio- rhythms out of sync, poorly aligned chakras, bad hair day..the list is endless, well at least mine is :-)

Goin great Sue, just remember smaller is faster. Cluffy, those shots look awesome! Where did you get that camera attachment? Awesome angle!!

Your runs look high over the sand islands Andrew, what fin you have in??

Here's the link to the K4 site mick. I went for the standard mount plus the extension the whole thing cost about 200 bucks with postage. I'm working on padding out the back of my harness with some life jacket foam to stabilise the mount a bit more.

When I first saw Cluffys camera mount I thought he had just jammed an old baton down his butt crack. On closer inspection it is a lot more sophisticated. But I reckon you could make one easily enough.

The water was quite deep yesterday, so was able to use a 46cm fin without any trouble. I plan to try a Delta this summer, to see if I can get even closer to the islands.

You should have come down the channel Cluffy. I was fully lit on a 5.5. Endless carve jibes and you would have got the 86 out. I swear it blows at least another 5 knots there than anywhere else.

James I think I used to sail with Michael Babbage at Marmong back in the 90's ..I didn't know he still sailed..Surprised

Sounds painfull if you catapult etc.. Wink

Yes Michael is a keen sailor, but mostly on things with fixed masts. But he also windsurfs (slalom and Formula) + Paddle boards + Mountain bikes.

He is also the man to see if you need any sails repaired. He lives on Coal Point Road.

Is he the one that works at Bob Fussells? If so he's not the guy I'm thinking of although I know him..Embarassed The guy I used to sail with would be in his 50's now I think..I thought that was his name but obviously not.

Cluffy how would that mount + camera handle a hard catapult stack?

Andrew Haigh

I think he does work at Bob Fussels.

See Cluffys picture number 3, he is midway through a hard catapult stack. It is a Gopro they are built pretty tough.

John where did you launch from? The thought of getting out on my 86 makes me want to gibber like an idiot(more than usual). Sue the mount is very flexible due to the harness attachment but the cam took a knock from the catacpult that bumped the camera angle off so the rest of the footage was angled too low to be useful. The biggest problem is actually smacking the cam with the sail when beach starting but once I was aware of it It stopped happening.

smacking the cam with the sail when beach starting-  I wore Russ' headcam one time and whacked it hard everytime I started! I thought I'd killed it but it just didn't work that time.. Don't know how you beach start with headcams they stick up so much!

Launched from Swansea side where the little breakwall goes out off the main breakwall. Its tricky getting down the rocks there but there is usually a bit of beach in the corner so you can put your gear down. Probably be another week and a half before the tide is right again.
