sboardcrazy (24824km):
3539 days ago 20-28kts+ SSW Buff Pt Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU- choppy as scary..
79ltre Falcon - 30cms weedie( miles too big) + 5m OD
Not many out and once out there could see why. Not much fun.I needed my 68ltre waveboard but of course I didn't bring it! 1st time I've decided to not bring everything and of course I regretted it.. Won't do that again. Had the 5m set really full with hardly any downhaul and overpowered + board too big + fin too big + whoose = splat
Hung back on the gybes in the chop and crashed a lot but then saw so was everyone else so felt better....Got a few but really had to go for it with gritted teeth.. Stayed out for 40mins then decided this isn't fun so went in..woohoo in the chop
Pulled heaps more outhaul + downhaul on and lowered the boom + mast track forward and went back out.It had got a bit more gusty so it was a bit flatter in the flats but then no consistent wind in there.. Still less stressful until the trip back in down the back of 2-3' chop Whooping my head off in adrenalin + fear... 1st time I've been scared in a while. I was also a bit worried as I was sailing in the area where Wayne's tree is and having a 30cm fin on that was in the back of my mind. Passed a floating doorsized something wood ? cardboard..
Paul on his new Magic ride having a ball , Tibor , Bruce , Frothie and Pugs.Old Pete had been out earlier at Peelie and said the chop was horrendous. Would have been better for B & J today..Time to check out Canton again?
Took some pics of conditions will post when more time. I'm happy with that speed considering the conditions.
The 'flats' our speed area - used to be mirror smooth
This is from a different direction ( looking across from the sth towards Buff Pt launch but look how flat the speed area was last winter..shallower + weed- similar wind strength although maybe gustier as WNW.
choppier area gybing
Looking across the channel to the flats- some flatter area there but wasn't getting any real wind.
