Forecast didnt quite deliver to Liptons. Still a Cruisy session i guess with all but 1 of the windsurfers Pinnas. Glad i didnt rig small expecting it to build as by 4pm when i had to leave it still wasnt much more than 15-18Kn. Nice in the smooth stuff though

Made the trip to Liptons with a few of the team. Everyone showed up except the wind... Cry

Still, it was nice to get a few hours on the flat stuff. Quite a relaxing arvo on the water, even managed a few drags with the guys.

When I arrived things did not look promising, even the tea baggers were sitting around chatting, well I didn’t drive 1 Hr for nothing so decided I better get rigging. Lunny was on the water first and it looked painful as he drifted north but the wind slowly started to build and by the time I made it across to the other side the wind was enough to at least get going. I was having fun on the 111L board but what I really wanted to do was get the new Mistral 91 wet. For the last 2 months it has been snug in its sock. If you are looking for someone to blame for the lack of wind I am sure it is this board. So I decided that I should head back as I was convinced the wind was picking up. Well after plugging all the bits in the right places I finally got the blue machine onto the water and commenced plodding back and forth. I am sure Lao’s board is different to mine because he was flying past me like I was a nana on an afternoon drive. Well let’s hope we get some more wind soon.

Peel Inlet, Liptons

Nice team turnout but a very skunky afternoon - didn't take any big gear because it was going to be windy!

Got on the water at 3pm to epic 16 knot gusts and then rather than building as predicted, it slowly crapped itself.

Totally worth the trip though, just to enjoy the shrieking tea-bagger Frown

Pelican Point, 118L/7.5m

Not much wind today until late. After an unhappy run, changed the fin, moved straps more inwards, and regained some control.

Stil more tunning required. Not sure the 7.5m is a good match to this board either. Seems too bulky.

Congratulations Tailwind :-)

Skunky trip to Liptons with Lunny, JJ, Mr Efficient (Snake) and Tailwind.

Glassy weed patches on the inside but no wind and no delta. Yoyo blasted past me as i was trudging out of the weed patch telling me that was why I should have a delta.Embarassed The Karma caught up with him though as he broke a mast a couple of runs later!

Worked downwind and followed Lunny on a hopeful naughty and watched him disappear off to Claudesville. Wind was dropping so decided to turn around.

Spent the next hour and a half working back upwind. Had a few drags with Mr Efficient around Pt Grey where as usual he was just using me as the bunny to chase. Thought he must be on a bigger board as I was struggling to stay on the plane and he just decided to bugger off upwind. He was on the 86 slim!!!Yell

I am sure that he defies the Laws of Physics!

JJ had a top 10 day using his wave board slogging skills.

Tailwind wanted to join the 91 club and got sucked in to a slog session when he should have stayed on the big gear.

Pleasant afternoon but not what we hoped for. Remind me that I am not coming back here unless the forecast is for a solid 25+!

Rigged the switchblade with a 460 top on the 430 bottom (powerex) and it seemed to set better but did not get to try it overpowered.

Pinnaroo Point, WA, AU - IS101, Turbo 6.5, CF34.  After driving halfway to Liptions I decided to turn around and try Pinnaroo for the 1st time as the forecast there looked good.  Was over powered and the ocean chop there requires skills that I do not have.  On just the 3rd run I managed to put my knee into the board.  Not a great day as I had anticipated so much more.

Enjoyable afternoon cruisin’ with the kites but the wind never booted in as expected. Was overly optimistic with the choice of high-tech gear. Beaver was flat and doable with a 21 weed fin but could feel the occasional twitch underfoot from the weed (late afternoon).

GS, there is a good reason why the Pinnaroos as a whole don't sail there...

I sailed there ONCE just to say I have.

Yes it does require a different set of skills.

Those who have those skills make excellent speed sailors because flat water is a breeze after Pinnaroo.

GS - some people use fast boards at Pinnaroo's, but  most will use FSW boards.  I.E.  JP FSW, Rockets, 3S, Code, RRD FSW are regualarly used.

Slalom and general race boards get too fast.  People who use fast boards use them early before the chop develops.

Of course, some still manage. Geoff will make an easy 30 knots on any board there.Smile

Thanks guys for the advice, I guess I should get more experience at least at Safety Bay first.

On the topic, and this should probably be asked at a Pizza night, what is the history of this team anyway? Why is it called Pinnaroos?

We did start off being called The Pinnaroo Point Mob, and the early members did sail there. Mike (Mineral) was the first captain, and he lives up that way. The original teams were all called the "something" mob. Our name being long, was often shortened to "the Pinnas". Anyway, when someone with a Euro accent said "The Pinnas" it sounded like something else quite rude, so we voted to change the name to "Pinnaroos" to discourage use of the shorter name. We still have some members for whom Pinnaroo Point is their local, and they do some recruiting there, but it is too rough for speed, so as a team, we never sail there.

Lao shi became captain after Mineral broke his leg and could not sail for some time. Lao was quite competitive and a strategist and that was probably when we as a team started venturing to flatter spots for speed.

When lao decided he needed a new challenge and wanted to move on to waves, the team (at a getaway at Shark Bay - I was not there) decided I would make a good replacement (tough act to follow!) and that is the story to date.
