Couldn't make it to the chook pond so I went looking for flat water at Wally World. Sand bar was submeged but there were patches of flat ish water. spent most of the time hoping for a gust to get or keep planing and the gusts came like bullets. Decided to pck up and try Melville. Got there to see a few foilers bobbing about in about 10 knots of wind so the lure of a warm shower won out over rigging again hoping for the wind to come back.

On day 4 the GW60 rose from it's moistened slumber to reveal itself. Immersed in rice since the session, it appears the trick has worked and the watch has fired up today with data intact. Certainly not epic numbers but an epic day considering. My gut feeling (as per an old post by Decrepit) the crumpled sleeve of my spray jacket may have been pushing against the watch buttons and allowed water ingress. What could have been if we managed to get in just half an hour earlier. I managed 4 runs before noticing the following; 1/ Watch wasn't working; 2/ 3 of the 4 race cams had broken; 3/ two small dings/punctures in board's bottom. With the wind looking like shutting down, I decided to call it quits. I was on a brand new, old model EVO 6 5.0m which was good in the big squalls, but possibly not getting the pull forward due to the broken batten tensioners. Hard to see myself getting much use out of this sail.

Boundary Island, Peel Estuary, WA, AU

Arrived at 8ish to see a lonely Flatchat in the carpart after expecting a few to already be out. Ventured into the big squals with Flatchat and got a few exciting runs in before it backed off and became quite gusty and swinging between W and WSW. A 5.6 was ideal in the gusts but was underdone for the rest of the session. Really choppy for the pond with some flat sections along the bank. The direction meant reaching out of the flat into the chop so difficult to get any more top end. Saw a 41.40 max so really peaky conditions. Good to see Pacey and later Jonski out too. JP 50 Vapor 5.6 Wp 24. Fun session for sure.

Got out with Woody and Pacey joined in later at the chook pond. Unfortunately my GPS watch decided to die after 4 runs. Might have something to do with an unintended freestyle move at the end of the speed run. I'm assuming some water got inside, so will leave for a few days to see if I can access and download the data. Last run was in a whiteout where I couldn't quite make out if the reading was 48 knots or 38 knots. Definately felt 48!!

Woody - looks like that would have made the trip worthwhile - very nice!

Tim - 38 or 48 would be quite acceptable

My GW60 isn't co-operating with my Mac again, so no official times. However only managed a best of 33.8, so no great loss. I went out with my Mistral 47 and a 5.5, but struggled to get going in the lighter stuff, should have used the M95. Did do a few runs that felt like 40knots, but weren't nearly as fast on the dial, not sure why.

We had a couple of nuking rain squalls that came through, when all you could do was huddle down and hold onto your gear, then between squalls it could be quite patchy. Definitely lacking fitness after COVID lockdown, looking forward to the end of winter already.

Nice work on the 57 Kai. Looks like you're getting the hang of this little beauty.  Look forward to seeing you smash Lunnys record on it (42.something kts).  Shame the pond is not a bit longer!

Great speed Tim. Glad your GPS came to the party in the end. A top5 score for both you and Mark. Great work, both of you.
