late and shortish Coyote session. wind had backed off a bit and gone a tad more West, but there were enough fast spots popping up beyond the "Z" buoy, if a tad squarish due to the wind shift and swell alignment.

unprepared for a NM, i thought i would do a practice run. it was squarish with only a couple of quick sectors and wasn't sure i had covered the distance as i was way out in the channel with no visual markers or race watch to count the time.

surprise surprise! ended up being a PB!

Great effort Kipps, Coyote is not the easiest place to go quickly. Pretty bumpy is what I remember from many sessions out there. Are the old drive in theatres still there to the west of the park, used to love catching a movie after a good day out on the water. Anyone still sail off of Embassy Suites, always found that faster than Coyote.

Peter, Roo, and Al, thanks so much for the support!

yes, Coyote can be tricky, but this was one of those days when things seemed to be about as perfect as they can get for speed before i made it out (there was a bit more wind and a bit less west to the direction, making for very good alignment with the well-organised chop). as i was riding i was thinking that a bit earlier 32-kt runs would have been in the cards.

as for the NM itself, well, it felt almost too easy… making me think i may have left some speed on the table and thinking that a 30-kt NM would have been possible before i got out there. as it was, my plateau during the run was a full 2,100m long with a 29.2 average for that stretch… so i had nothing to worry about with the distance.

Roo,

not typical to see people launch at Embassies anymore. the wind patterns have changed somewhat, so with more westerly wind more prevalent i haven't had much luck finding faster water there. the fast spots seem to happen about two miles out or so.

the drive-in stopped operating some twenty years ago but the screens remained for a while. more recently that site got developed (sporting some five mid-rise buidlings that mess up wind at the launch) and is the offices of facebook's oculus division.
