Richo 72 (6715km): Albany, WA, AU Another crack today in slightly lesser wind and lower tide. Ribs not feeling great but thought I’d test them out. Got to Rushys Pnt and da wind was on and tide dropping quick. Thought I’d play it safe with 5.6 and this time no weight in da jacket. Went da 20 Delta and Dan and I started the walk to deep enough water to take off. 800 mtrs later a with the wind backing off and tide still falling at a rapid pace I thought probably should have gone da 6.3 and 16 Delta but wasn’t prepared to walk all da way back. Then as I got to knee deep water the wind booted in at 30 knts and I took off and instantly didn’t feel comfortable with the ribs and my breathing. I did a few test runs with some easy bear offs but thought it wasn’t worth it , if I stack it I’ll have to float out. So I sat and watched Dan send it and he looked real comfortable in his new stance and back hand position. Reckon he would have got a 40 PB if he was on his Carbonart board with a 16Delta. With the tide getting low Dan said too dragy so we walked back in. Still say what a great trip away even though I didn’t achieve what I was after but great company with Dan and always great to be here in Paradise. Also thanks to Ronnie for his hospitality this morning with a warming cup of coffee. Just maybe nxt time some better local knowledge on the tide and gear selection 😂😂 | ||||||||||||||||||
Pos (15681km): ![]() Albany, WA, AU A much more sedate session today down at Albany with Richo. We probably left it a little late in the day to get on the water and tide ended dropping pretty quickly by the time we rigged and ventured out from Rushy Pt. As predicted the wind strength was a lot less than yesterdays chaos so felt a bit more comfortable going out. My 2sec, 5x10 & Alpha are PBs for me on the newish Windtech 50 + 5.6 Loft RB so was pretty happy with those results. Got my best runs going between the 2 bamboo posts up near the naughty run and bearing off along the weedbank (wind was WSW at the time) but when the tide dropped quickly and the weed was near the surface, I just couldn't push it any harder due to the draggy nature of the water/weed. Probably could have got the 40 if I had gone out on the CA48 + 16cm Delta but missed my opportunity (not making excuses!). Put it down to not the best choice of gear and leaving it a bit late to make a start. If nothing else, it was a good recon mission to check out the area on a strong WSW and a bit of local knowledge from Rondog. I (and Richo) will certainly be better prepared for next time. Was great hanging out with Richo and chewing the fat for a couple of days. Thanks also to Rondog for the coffee & chat and tour around his digs this morning. |
