5 days ago 6.5 M6; Patrik SL 90; Tribal DS20....Boombas aka Pt Grey with the usual suspects + Woody
Well there are some days when you just should stay at home and this was mine. Got to Boombas to see a solid 25+ kt and I didn't bring my 5.5 so 6.5 was the only option. Everybody else was changing down or rigging 5.2 etc. I rigged anyway and waited hoping for the breeze to soften and it did so I went out but incredibly wasn't really powered up that much. Did a long run but took ages to get going to get back as the breeze dropped more and I found myself with fin bouncing along the shallow bottom. Finally got going(ish) and made it back. Decided to stop for a quick coffee break and some fruit and then ventured out as the wind seemed to boot again and I found myself well powered but pretty comfy....well that's until the fin popped as I was bearing off...tried to pull it back but no luck then the sideways crash. Not too bad but I did tweak my knee. Sailed back to the carpark as the wind continued to increase again. So I decided that the one warning crash was enough and best to not tempt fate anymore.
So there it was - not great speeds and a super short session. Lesson learnt - bring 3 sails next time just in case.
Poured myself a red wine tonight to commiserate...
