Lyttelton Harbour, NZ

Good solid windy day on the harbour, choppy and pretty over powered at the end. Had hoped for a bit better alpha time as some gybes turned out great but sadly it didn't happen.

Great to be out on the old Mistral Flow again. I don't think I've sailed it since early 2011. Such a nice feeling board in the rough stuff. Especially good when you put the supplied fin on :-) That didn't prevent probably the biggest over the front crash I've ever had though. It was totally punishing and I am here writing this with a cold-pack on my forearm.

Tried out a my new locally made wettie today as was really pleased to find that even though it's only 3mm it is very warm indeed. Just what you need when your breath is making steam while you're rigging up.

Daylight saving is about to start so looking forward to long afternoons and strong northeasters.

Sandy Point, Vic, AU

Left for Sandy Point at 9.30am for the 2.5hr drive down there.  (have been staying with family in eastern suburbs). Wind was howling all the way down there and had to avoid a few tree branches that were blown onto the road and large potholes.  Got down and tide was still too high to get onto the beach.  After coffee at the NSW rental house we all headed back down about 2pm.  Was absolutely freezing cold with thunder and squalls coming in from the wrong direction!  Rigged the 5.0 Koncept and waited.  Wind swung back to be straight west so went out for a few runs on the f2 speed board with a small fin curtesty of Kato (thanks). Very frustrating that the wind angle was wrong both days I was down there and it was very challenging with the 50 knot hail squalls!  Still glad I made the extra effort to drive down, met some great people and was an experience driving on the beach and seeing just how rugged it is down there.  Cold totally sapped my energy quite amazed I did 19km! Thanks also to Mat for letting me use his wetsuit hood and beanie and Daffy for the booties and to Kato for the wind reports and organising accommodation for us on the first 2 nights. Derigged when it was almost dark and enjoyed a thaw out hot shower before the drive home- back about 10.30pm (after getting a bit lost in the dark arhh those confusing crossing motorways around Dandenong!) and was totally exhaused.

Fantastic speeds there Astrid, the things we do to get the kts. That's the trouble you have to freeze to catch the big cold fronts to get the gale force winds down south ways. I sailed in 6 degrees down here in Hobart on Saturday, sailing mittens are a life saver down here. Queensland's made you softWink
