Safety Bay, WA, AU

packet the car the night before with just one setup

left work the hour early and got to the beaver to see mark and jj already out, they were on their usual kit and struggling

the bar was out of the water too

never the less rigged the gear i had and got on the water for some slogging

made my way upwind to penguin island and got a few good puffs up there for some 31's and then it disappeared so i slogged back to the car with the other two, standing around talking and i thought it was going to come in so just on faith i pulled some extra downhaul and got on the water and within 5 minutes the wind was in and jj and lao were on the water 5 minutes after that

the tide had come in too and the bar was now only slightly dangerious Undecided

i slowly gained confidence and was pushing as hard as i could but alas its hard enough to go 35 knots on water net alone on weed, even with a weedy i was dragging big clumps around alot of the time, the other guys couldn't quite get down the run with their 27's

sailed until the sun set

all up a great day, good to get the sail dialed in some more

Really weird wind at SB - 20 knots at 3 then around 4 no wind at all near the pond, but good gusts over at Penguin Island.

Got a few good runs around 34 knots over there at the causeway although I had no clue where the shallow areas were.

Got completely skunked at about 5 and had to walk back about a km to the car - sat around awhile with Mark and Anita.

Sean was out sailing and started to rip at about 6 as the wind came back so Mark and I went back in for the best runs of the day - a bit too shallow on the bar though - the fin was getting through the weed brilliantly but the friction was slowing things down.

Isonic 86, GPS 6.6, Vector Delta Weedy 27 (great fin - held in well in the chop in the middle of the bay and great through the weed).

"Come down to Safety Bay" they said, it's 15 knots and building - bring the small stuff. So I loaded up the small stuff and set off. By the time I got there there was so little wind that even all the kites had come in. The windsurfers were all just dogging along. So I went and chatted to a few people who said it had been 20-25 knots only half an hour earlier. I thought they were pulling my leg until that story was corroborated by other groups. I went for a walk around the pond and over the sand spit, learnt a bit about kiting and headed back to the carpark to find Sean and Mark had dogged back. Eventually JJ turned up after along slog, and then finally at about 5.45 the wind came in all of a sudden. It was too late for me to rig and sail by then but the guys headed back out and were speeding along.

Oh well. It was a lovely afternoon for a stroll along the beach.

Could it be any closer, Mark?

Yeah, sorry Anita. It really was windy at 3, honestly. Embarassed
