Lake George, SA

Nice in the morning but a bit too windy for distance in the afternoon. But I was under orders to try and back up Craig ;)

Huge kudos to my crazy team captain for his insane distance and 22hr (approx) marathon!

Too tired to get out the speed board and do any speed runs...

CA SL 87L with Fangy fin 24cm and 5.7m KA Speed then changed down to 5m KA Koncept after lunch but still overpowered.

Lake George, Soputh Australia.

Another nice day with winds in the mid to high 20's. I rigged my 2021 and 2022 5.2m's to compare, but I liked the experimental mast rig of the 2022 that I didnt come in and swap. Laughing

I waited until the wind seemed to be pretty well filled in and sailed until late. It just got better and bettwe until just before I finished. OK, I was also trying to look after KATO during his 24 hr record attempt, but that worked out fine for me.

Amazing to see sooooo many sailors on the lake and the shore! Surprised

I think the Pit crew had 6 sailors today which was very nice. Cool

I just love it when I can sail the CA40 speed board and just fang around all day in good wind. Laughing

Pretty please with my speeds and NM as well.

Lake George

Firstly...massive respect to Kato for an increadible distance...we are not worthy!!!!

I Launched from 5 mile, dod 1 run up the top but the wind felt soft so i went right down to the spit.  Struggled to find flat water except in the weed which was super thick and draggy.  persisted but got a bit frustrated as i should have been going faster.  the wind picked up so did the big upwind slog to the top of the lake.  A bit knackered when I git ther but first rin was a 40 peak, then a 41.7 peak and another 40 peak.  Felt like the wind was backing off...had got my 40 so called it quits. Hindsite is a wonderful thing...should have stayed up the top all day a definitely would have seen some higher speeds....but super happy to have a 40, its been a while.

great fun!!!

Midnight +1min.

Woohoo! Peanut butter and cheese sandwich again. Gels are going down slowly. More water onboard. No time for chat or rest - back on to it.

Still having fun - awesome conditions, but the wind is getting lighter.

4am stop. Really light winds, getting hard. Going to have to rig up the 9m. Tone arrived to check on me and gave me a hand to rig up the 9m - not thinking that we would need it.

The 9m was perfect to get me going in very light shifty wind. Still great conditions but alot harder.  Back feet and knee are really talking to me.  Still great runs in the smooth water across to cockies. No more moon and no more mast top light - sailing in complete darkness with just star light and a couple of shooting stars to see by.  Gybing via the brail system.  Can still see - but just.

5am - unscheduled stop. Wind has picked up so back to the 7.7m Koncept.

Kept sailing on this and didnt do the  scheduled 8am stop and kept going till 9 am.

Swaped to the 6.6 as the wind had picked up. This is going to be a great day sailing!

By the way i really hate the mud - its really hard to walk in with tired legs.

9.30am stop. Wind dropped off again. Back to the 7.7m.

12 pm stop. More water, changed back to the 6.6m - its getting windy!

Chased some long Kms all over the lake. Joined by Pete Johnson who is going to back up some kms for the team challenge. The wind has really picked up and its starting to get really lumpy.  Huey is not making this easy for me.  Wind gusting to 25 knts, lumpy lake and well and truly worn out body.

Came in at 2pm - had enough! Wind has picked up, it is 30 knts. Back is gone, knee is gone. Holes in feet and hands. No more sandwiches left! I want to go home.  Daffy then looked at my numbers and stated that i had to do another 50 km in 1.5 hrs to finish what i started to do.

Grabbed the smaller, 5.7 on the 52 and proceeded into the chaos of the chop of lake george. The wind and the sea was insane - gusty, choppy, tired legs, tired body - i did 20 long laps of the lake hoping that it would add up to 20 km. Stuff 50 km.  I'm done.

Got back to the car - stuck in the mud probably 20 m from the shore. Too exhausted to move.  Daz from the bridesmaids came and grabed all my gear to take me in. A big thanks!

No Daffy.  He is out chasing 40 knots on the speed board.  To keep the integrity of the data, i hand over all my FOUR GPS' to nicole. To gaurd with her life. I'm not doing this again!

Some of my gear had been packed up but i finished the day putting back the gear for the very short drive back to Southern Ocean Caravan Park.

Out of the wetsuit finally, and into a nice hot shower before eating left overs and catching up with Daffy on what the results were, as i had no idea of the distance i had sailed. After checking four GPS' the conclusion was that i had collected 3 PBs! I was shocked!

I was aiming for one PB - but to get 3 is insane! The final total distance was 830 km. Absolutely stoked! Bedtime.

16 Feb 2022

breakfast in the morning. Daffy announces that he made a mistake last night with the data. He forgot to turn off the filter for zero speed - so turns out my total distance was 848 km! Now i'm really shocked!

Still got all the bouys to pick up tomorrow.  But i might be off the windsufer for a while. But man it was great fun.

SL52 Atomic weed 20 Koncept 5.7

Big thanks to Carbon Art, KA Sails, and Martin Love for their wonderful boards, sails and fins. I couldn't do any of this without their great commitment to the sport.

To all my friends, family in and out of the windsurfing family, thanks for all your love and support during this crazy adventure. I'm done.

End. Part II.

Thanks everyone, I’m blow away by all messages and support from everyone. Home now having visited the Doc’s to get a few wounds checked out. Duck mud and salt water makes great infections 🥴🥴. I was hoping to get to the 1000km mark but that was just a bit too far for this black duck 😜 . Got a 19 kt ave for the 24hr which is nice and I never expected a great corner or 1 hr. Thank you all ❤️
