First session for me in team Pinnas Smile

Got to Peli Point straight after work and thought it would pick up so rigged a 5.0 on my big board... the wind didn't pick up.  Still good to find Lao Shi blasting around on the water and meet Marcel on the beach.

First session since winter in boardies, good to feel free again!

Fun session at Pt Walter with John and Dan from SRM. Good to get distracted from my flu...

Start of the session looked promising with a 30 on the dial first run, but the wind moderated from then on.

Naish SP 91; Koncept 6.6; Naish 32cm upright

EDIT: On Decrepit's advice i've changed alpha 500 data to trackpoints

Went to Pt W at lunchtime when the big black clouds appeared. Rigged and waited (I was sure it was going to happen) de-rigged and went back to work disappointed.

Peli Pt after work. Thought wind looked too Southerly for another Pt W attempt. JP Slalom 84, 28cm JP pointer Koncept 6.6. Good to meet up with Marcel and Ben. Claude and Snides were cranking it up to move up the table. Fairly flat water right by the point but not enough wind to get big speed. Probably should have used a bigger fin.

EDIT: Alpha to trackpoint.

First session... got a bit of learning to do with the GPS....

Half the session with a new ezzy 5.8 wave that I couldn't resist trying and the rest with 6.5 ezzy infinity.

Board: goya fxr 105

Fin: Maui Fin 32 (accidently modified down to 31).

Total distance is incorrect... I am checking my settings now.

Marcel and Nebbs out at Peli, Chris at Pt W. Maybe they are just holding back the big numbers before we put the boot in.Foot in mouth

Marcel will send his data to either Mike or me, so the numbers may change.

Well done Mark. Some good numbers for those conditions! The new board must be the goods!

Welcome to the team Ben and Marcel!

Boardies Nebbs, you must be crazy. Boy it got cold once the sun went down. Welcome to the Pinnas.

Well done on the PB, Chris. Did you use doppler or trackpoint for alpha? We are so close to the others and i know sailquick has advised trackpoints. Nebbs any advice? What do the Mobsters do? Trackpoint gives me a 21.84 which would give us a 20.65 ave and 2 more places! Both on the alpha and the ladder overall!

Did stop and have a look at Pt W on the way down from Dalkeith side but wasn't confident. I had really got my hopes up for a good session. Soon?

Hey Mark,

All my data is Doppler. If the word's out that trackpoint is better to use for alpha let me know.

Thanks for the congrats on the PB guys. Now to get that bloody 5x10 over 30. I thought I'd do it yesterday after the first two runs... but huey disagreed.

Yep, definately use trackpoints for alphas, with the proviso that you check it for invalids and spikes.

There shouldn't be a huge difference between alpha and trackpoint results, and they should both pick the same gybe. The track should be a "U" shape, and the time should advance at 1 sec intervals, if that's all fine, it should be a valid alpha.

If in doubt ask nebs to check.

Well done team Cool

Great to see Nebbian post for Pinnas first time out in a while. He reckons he has taught Mandurah Mob all he knows , and now is into coaching usCool

Marcel has a session, yet to put it up, but welcome to the GTC and a great deal of fun.

Thanks to the rest of the Team for August, a great effort seeing as we had some lengthy breaks between storm fronts, and in particular our Whip man Loa Shi, who keeps us all striving to get on the water and improveSmile

Nebs thinks because he's sailing up North now he can get away with wearing boardies.

Hope they weren't over a wettySurprised

He had a concern with his settings, have run it through my RSpeed and looks like he is up in the 20's for distance. Have sent him corected data to post Smile

Boardies just makes you concentrate more on those gybes Wink

Couldn't believe how many people were there, all smiles as well... It's so good being able to be on the water 25 minutes after walking out the door at work Cool

Regarding alphas, yes use trackpoints but as Decrepit said, you have to look at the gybe that Realspeed thinks is your alpha and make sure it's a nice rounded U shape and not a jagged V.  I normally throw away at least the top alpha because it's not really measuring anything except a spike.

Mineral, those numbers for Marcel come out quite different from the results I got from realspeed. Were they trackpoint or doppler? Were you working from the NMEA file or did you get Marcel to download from the logger?
