Witnessed an awesome off by 25 who suddenly realised he was accelerating towards the Melville foreshore. A 9.5 for execution but only a 7 for style!Wink

Cheers guys. Really fun sailing the small gear. I rigged the 6.4m/55mistral but was expecting the wind to pick up later. It was about 40kts during a squall while I was rigging the 5m so I derigged the 6.4m and stashed it, thinking it was all starting... that was gust of the day.

Well underpowered on the 5m but I needed to get some time on the 41.Its such a sweet combo. Gybing is just ace. Was cranking into gybes at the end of the runs going flat out. Wicked fun. Wind was too patchy for great alphas though.

Got 5 runs with max over 43.5, and a couple of 44s on the dial. But the gusts were really short so you couldnt stay lit for more than a couple of seconds. More wind would have been interesting. The gusts were only coming through mid to high 20s. Best wind was a patch between 1:10 and 1:30. Got a couple of 42.6kt 10 sec runs then (3rd and 4th fastest 10sec runs in WA for me). After that it backed off so padded the 5x10 out with some 40s and 41. There was a lot of waiting around between gusts. It did fill in a bit after 5pm so had some fun on the other tack with Matt and Tomski until it got dark. Broken today... not so much from the sailing but the mission in and out of the place.

Great numbers guys. I am moving to Perth next week and will be living in Applecross which is just near Melvilles i think? Keep an eye out for a slow NQ Mob bloke! Which direction does this work in and what tide does the bank come out? There is a bank right?

Pacman, The area we sail is actually off Applecross. The carpark on Melville Beach Parade. "Melville" works in any direction except east and south east. The sand bank doesn't come above the water except for a few spots at very low tide, however it gets dangerously shallow at low tide in the spring because the low tides are in the middle of the day. Particularly treacherous when the afternoon sun is shining off the water. Wear polarised sunnies and look out for the couple of star pickets which mark the shallowest bit at the start of the bar.
