First real day of sailing at Luderitz. Started on the 6.3 KA Race and broke the current AUS record on the 2nd run raising it to 43.38. The 6.3 Race was awesome as I knew it would be.. I peaked around 45 on it. Then i changed to the 5.8 Koncept. The speeds increased and it was awesome! It was brand new out of the bag.. The first run started well then I spun out slightly. I must have picked up some mud or crap on the fin in the shallow starting area. The 2nd half of the run was sheeted out in spin out mode. The start had a 47.9 peak and a 46.89 10 second. It would have been the fastest run of the day. I did more runs and the 2nd last had the quickest 500. It is super hard getting going at the start. Its broad and gusty. I need to work on starts.. I tried the wieght jacket but couldnt start a run with it on (in 21/2 hrs..) so I took it off and did my best 500. One of us 3 will have re broken the Aus record around 44.5 knots. We wont know till tonight who it is. All 3 of us sailed well for the first time here. Its like nowhere else in the world.. All 3 of us will be in the top 6 for the day at least.. :-) Mistral 41, KA 21 assy fin, Ka Race 6.3 and Koncept 5.8

Luderitz Channel.

Today was the first real day of wind and up until today i hadn't got a full run down the channel. i got down early to get the first one of my chest and it felt good, the channel if definalty a mind thing, i have sailed in this kind of wind plenty of times but when ou get stuck in a 6m wide ditch it takes some getting used to. i got 3 good runs early in the morning over 40, then the wind started to build i got a few good runs and my peak was right at the end of the course were the course is really low. super stoked with this. i got it on the PD43 i was just starting to get this board dialed and as i came into the finish basin a kite boarder had ditched his board and i run right over it screwing up my board...... not happy. After this i got on my PD39 i got only 2 runs on this before i was exhausted, feel good but is going to take some getting used to.

One more good run i would have got a high 45 ave, frustrating but more days to come. The whole day i only got in 12 runs, 6 over 40......

I had many failed attempts starting off it is so gusty and very shallow in spots, even Daffy was skunking starts!! that never happens. The start is so important if you dont get going fast and up to speed when you get to the corner you get torn off the board. more to come!!

Congrats on the PB JK. Nice on the new sails and all. Bugger about the board mate - its a wonder they let you start a run if there is known debris on the course - dangerous at the speeds you blokes are travelling.

Tony, great to see the RACE making it's debut and doing over 45 peak......it gives me hope and something to strive for (well in the vacinity of anyway ;-)    ). Great sailing guys for the first REAL day on the water

i Guys,, thanks! Hey choco, the 47 would be easier at the start as its super gusty and broad. Once going though he 41 is perfect. Just have to be lucky. you line up for 15-20 mins for a run then if you can't get going you go to the back of the lis again. I deally yesterday maybe a 43cm 68 litre would have been better? Once i took the weught jacket off it was much easier and thats when i did the 44.84 500..

cheers
