Nice gentle wind, fairly consistent. Still choppy in the middle because of the yatch racing.

Xfire 114, Turbo 7.5, 34 weedy.

Managed two fully planing gybes, quite pleased on the big gear and lightish wind.

Marcel was just going out as I came in, so hope he got a sail.

Might have been a bit more wind than forecast, but sadly i had to leave as it picked up to get to work on time. Mainly did some long runs. Bit lumpy today and not quite enough water on the speed run when i was out.

Great to meet Jake today too. I'm sure you smashed it JakeSmile

Safety Bay, WA, AU. Launched at Carlisle st today which is a pretty nice spot. Went for the hour but boom went bang at the 58 minute mark. The trip average was sitting around 23.5 at that stage... Bugger. Sailed in to assess the damage and met Craig on the beach. To our surprise, the boom extension cleat had jumped out of the 206 slot and, under compression, jumped into the 200 slot!!! Surprised I assure you this new banana boom was not a great look.

Went back out once I'd readjusted the boom for a few more runs and after about another hour the same POP! boom did it again. I think I may need to start shopping for a replacement cleat assembly.... Fun day all up though. Time for a brew. Cool

Only expected light winds so just had the big Mistral with me - it was great fun (although a handfull at times) in the 15 to 20 knots of wind that we got.

Stoked to get an ocean PB 2 sec and NM on this awesome board. A magic afternoon with Norts on his new Futura.

Nice putt around in the sunshine and good to chat with a few people on the beach. Great to see Chris, Jemma and family all having fun. Only thing I noticed today was just how many jelly fish there are about (that tells you how slowly I was going that I had time to look at them).

Quick sail at Melville. Had to wait for my son to bring the car back before I could go sailing, and that left me only enough time to go to Melville. Gusty and holey but warm and sunny. I did really well with the rig flips on the gybes today. Pity there wasn't the board speed to get a good alpha.

Good to catch up with Gemma and Chris, Jeff and GS.

Maui sails skinny carbon boom. The funny thing is it seems fine on inspection, must just be a loose fit or?

Awesome work Jake and Jonah! Not quite 22 knots ave but close enough to gain us 5 points. Well done! We're only 6 points behind 4th place! Pity about the boom assembly Jake, 23.5 would have been very handy.

Jonah, a 21 knot hour on the river today is quite amazing. The gusts were good but the holes were huge and the boats were plenty. Good going!

One very happy captain. Thanks to everyone else who tried for an hour, and congratulations to AC and Bono and Wingman who scored hour PBs. It is amazing what you can do when you set yourself a challenge - not the best conditions for it today either. I am embarassed to score a zero for the hour - my window of oportunity only allowed for 45 minutes of sailing.

Nice nm there Wingman - a nm is a long way to sail.

Jemma, glad you got a session in at last. It was a lovely afternoon to be out with the family.

JJ, ditto on Ricey's comment.

Congrats on the PBs and great team turn out.

Snake,

Got the exact same boom and it did exactly the same thing on a couple occasions.  Ended up wrapping the tail in a layer of carbon to make for a tighter fit.  Also now have rubber bands around the clips which works a treat.  Of course Maui sails denied any issue with the booms.

Snags is onto it Jake.Cool

I've had the same issue with my Maui booms, but I'm not as handy as Snags so I just wrap some duct tape round the clips when I rig up.

Snake as a quick fix I have used cut sections of bike small rim width inner tube and slide it over the top of the pins. Seems to work well enough stopping the pins popping out under load, but having read Snags approach I think I will do that as a long term fix.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Cool

Fangy and Pointy - It seems that the pin clips don't pop off at all. I think perhaps the clip assembly bends slightly under load without moving from the locked position. I've noticed a crack in the pin clip on one side (the slipping side) so I'm going to have to source a new clip from the retailer. I suspect this tiny crack allows the clip to bend beyond its design specifications and allows the pin to move out of the hole just enough.

It looks to me that it's like Snags said - they haven't made the tail piece wide enough and the holes are not providing a snug fit for the pins.

I'll have to try it again once I get the new clip and will try the tape idea. I had thought maybe cable ties would work here? That way the sucker wouldn't move at all!

I'll raise this with the manufacturer again so they're aware of the problem. Maybe I'll mention that I'm looking at the enigma now and see what they do haha
