LG - Life is Good -Day 6 - 5-20knts

Heaps of fun with all the crews playing around

I knew you guys will have the wind for the speed, so I tried to help in HR (gave up wind too gusty), so I focussed on Kkks and I tried some Alpha, I saw a 35 on the screen mid arvo so I thought was enough to don't look too stupid Wink

End of day the water glassed up and wind became more stable, by then I was done. Hope my contribution help the team Wink, coz Im faked!

Misty55, RSR5.8, mxr24 - guuuud stuff Cool

Lilacs JP45sp 20MXRweedy RSREIII6.2 then JP54 MXR24 6.2 for a few alphas

Fun sail at lilacs, first couple of runs were fastest, tried a few alphas at the end to back up Elmo and Mike but arms too tired to hook in.

two 35+ miles were fun, needed more wind at the right angle.

Loadsa people again, a great day. Stroppo very happy, well done on the pbs mate,

Lilacs can be quite good!

Just created a 5*NM for my own pleasure, today I did 5 NM runs, first was fastest and they kept getting slower.

5x NM 34.23kts.

Tide too low for me to run over the flat stuff and also to cross the sandbars so entry and exit from the NMs slow.

Another epic lilacs session Started out on the seven reflex but it soon became a bit of a handful. So changed down to the 6.2 and was very comfortable on this. A swag of pbs from all today so very happy with the day. Used a carbon art sp50 with a 17 delta and a 7.0 then a 6.2 Severne reflex 3.

Sensational weekend down at Albany, Tabou Manta 54, TR-9 6.3m Pepeweed 21/48degree, Congratz to Steve, Decrepit and Ratz on the sensational NM's!!!!!!!  Leg felt too weak to try NM's or Alphas, sorry guyzEmbarassed, but it was up for speed woohoo thats a PB on that Board,Cool, not up to the speed board yetEmbarassed

Tabou Rocket wide 108L & JP weed 31, Tabou Manta 64 & Elmo/Pepe Silver wahoo 60º 17cm, NP RSR Eiii 7.0m

One of those days today

Rocket has a leak following prang yesterday

Mast broke (fortunately on shore)

Sail looked like it had a couple of weak creases touched them found they magically turned into holes upon contact with my finger.

(Edit) forgot about a devil fish sting in ech foot

Got destroyed by an old crippleEmbarassed

Wind kicked to the next level after I got of the water

And the most painful of all

I missed a 26.068 Alpha by 190mm, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Other than that it was a fantastic sail.

Hat's of to all those who got PB's this weekend Strop in particular with his mental hour probabley would have cracked a 30 if he hadn't waved to everyone he went breezing byWink to those that though about the trip and flagged it......

Started out on a seriously low tide with the bigger board for the hour but the runs were a lot shorter due to the lack of water, still it was fun even with dropping 3 gybes and most embarrassingly missing the back footstrap (as well as the back of the board) and doing the chicken wish bone trick.

After the hour I decided to go to the smaller bard as I wanted to test one of my experimental fins, which worked a treat, abrasion resist coating was excelent.

Unfortunately After going for "one more run" half a dozen times I got of the water at 1300 an hour later than planned, back at the cabin I couldn't help it and checked data on KA72 which gave me a happy dance. The dance must have worked as the wind really started kicking after that, unfortunately I had my wee comute home.

Once again Congrats to all out there.

Probably my last sail down at Albany as I don't have the bottle for the shallow water anymore, shame this is my Nº1 flat water spot, the place rocks with such a consistant wind.

Another fantastic lilacs day. Raining pbs' more later Well enough energy has returned to jot down some basic details. Started off doing an hour with Elmo but made a bit of a hash of it. Tried keefs 17cm deltoid in the 53 with the 5.8 koncept. Too choppy through the bay kept spinning out, so changed to my 20cm 55deg super weedy. Still spinning out a it in the chop, should have done what Elmo did, and used a conventional 45deg weedy and stayed out of the thick weed. About half an hour in to it, had a big collision with something unseen, no fin damage, but I had a big pitch over the front. Started hour again, but stuffed a few gybed, couldn't raise the enthusiasm to start yet again. Came in for a break and changed to the 43cm board with the 48deg 18cm weedy. Felt much more comfortable on this, so went for some alphas and nm's. After lunch I changed sails to the 5.4koncept, I think this gave me my best speeds. Sooo many big grins today, think I'll remember Elmo's alpha pb war dance for a while, also Cheryl's huge grin at the end of her nm run, and nothing could top strops excitement when we crunched his numbers.

Here's my tracks, not much of the inner pond unsailed. Sausage you can see although I'm bearing off at the start speed takes a while to build up, the weed there is fairly heavy, but taking off so far around does allow to be going full speed once out of the heavier weed.

lilacs tracks 1st feb 15

Thanks Fangy, you would have loved it. I tried to plug the delta into my little board towards the end of the session only to find i need to give the head of the fin a tickle to get it to fit. Hence the swap to the 54. All good, it meant I knowked out a vcouple of alphas. As always TOW is the key to fitness and I have not had much recently.

Stroppo's hour was I believe with a Delta. Good proof that in the right hands and the right conditions they work well.

Strewth Cap'n Calm that's a stonkin' session for you two. Good distance and a sweet set of speeds too, with a magic Nauti to top it all off! Gee, I am beginning to suspect it might have been more fun down there than the fun I had cleaning the verandahs.

Just to explain my recovery and return to windsurfing.  I saw the Ortho Surgeon 10/12/14, and he explained that the leg bone was unlikely to break since the xray showed complete healing but that the major risk was soft tissue injury because of muscle weakness and susceptibility of ligaments and tendons.  He said 12 months was the usual time for muscles and soft tissues to get back to full strength.  He asked about windsurfing and the degree of strain and risk I would likely expose myself to.  I replied windsurfing had a vast range from gentle to extreme, and if he gave the go ahead I would windsurf at the gentle end (the first slight fib on my behalf).  He said OK then I approve that you can start windsurfing again.

My first windsurf was next day on 11/12/14.  I went out for about 10 mins and it all felt too much for the leg as the wind picked up to 20kts.  I tried again next day 12/12 and again wind quickly built and the leg just wasnt up to it.  Quit after 10/15 mins.  Decided to have a break for 10 days and build up more strength in leg and so back on the water about 22/12 and this time at fangy's where water was much flatter than Novara. About a 15 to 20 min session, and it felt stronger than when I first started. So from about the 22nd of Decemeber I have had one or two sails per week at Fangy's, slowly building up the amount Of time I windsurf and also trying things like downwind speed runs and gybing/alphas.  The downwind speed runs felt much easier on the leg than gybing, the amount of force, strength and twisting required in gybing is unnoticed until you are returning recovering from injury.

So yesterday was not my first sail back, it was the first one that I have posted on the GTC.  I started to wear the gps again at about the 4 week (middle of January) mark, 29kts peak first time.  Then broke into the 30's, progressed to low 30's, and have had about 3 or 4 sessions where I have cracked the mid 30's with a couple of high 36's.  I promised captain I would post again if it would help the team, and yesterday was just the perfect conditions, dead flat water, steady strong wind, and I just went into total denial i was recovering from a broken leg, and had promised the surgeon I would stick to gentle windsurfing for the first 6 months.  How embarrassmenting

Mike, Thanks. A little channel across the tip of the sand bar to the south end would make a NM run perfect - anyone know someone with a barge excavator Wink

Hardie, thanks for the update on the leg.  Very hard to get that leg strength back to normal.  My left thigh is still slightly smaller (weaker) and I did my knee (100% rupture of the patella) in 2003.  I've started supplementing windless periods with some cardio / light weight gym work which has been brilliant for stamina (but still carrying my built-in weight jacket)

Truly amazing to see so many 34 + nautical milesCool congratulation on great effort guys.

Then all this graphs and charts make this even more interesting lecture ( a lots to learn for me , special thanks to evets - I alway wanted to see how it looks very fast nautical mile on speed graphs - to see how constant the upper speed is over distancce).
