Carlisle St, Safety Bay, WA, AU

Nice couple of hours out. Would have kept going if not for work tonight. Did see Jake and Sammy having a crack on the beaver but the amount of kites made things more challenging, tad more wind would have been handy too. Still quite a bit of ribbon weed hanging around. Loads out on the grassed areas enjoying the day too.

Mistral 91, Reflex3 6.2, Tribal ws 27.(should have gone bigger for the chop)

Safety Bay, WA, AU Wind at last! First time I've gone over 24 knots all year!

Met Jake at SB around 2.30. Nice and windy, and not too many kiters. Those who were there mostly stayed in the pond which was handy. I decided to go out on the M47 and the 5.7K. Tried a couple of speed runs but could only get just over 30. Wasn't really powered up enough, so I thought I'd put the big board on and try some gybes. That was the stimulus for the wind to kick in, so I decided to try some more speed runs. Got a 31.7 peak on the first run but the M91 was too big for the swell after the run and felt very dangerous. I got tossed off and put a hole in my sail (now I remember how it happened) I tried two more runs but was overboarded and overpowered and couldn't really put the pedal down. I should have come in and changed down to the smaller board and tried again but it was getting late by this time and I had told my husband I'd be home for dinner. When I left the wind was still increasing, Jake was fully lit on his 6.3 and powering down the run on the speed board. Those of you who stayed home will regret not going to SB today. The tide was just right all afternoon and not too much traffic over the bar. I think I was right about the kiters having parties to go to on Australia Day!

Lunny started from Carlisle St but I could see him doing some speed runs. Good to catch up with Sammy too.

Pinnaroo Point, 115L / 7m - started too big and had to go back to shore and downhaul and outhaul the sail. It was nice to get planning from the moment the sail is up, but then it would be a bit scary, as the chop was quite high today. Then it dropped and picked up once I dismantled the rig.

Pinnaroo very choppy today. Much more so than Sat/Sun.

Just noticed I'm 30 km short of 3000 so a "milestone" next session.

Will make sure to make 30+ kms in a day Smile

Another 40 years and I'll catch up with Mark....

Saftey Bay, WA, AU. Big day at the office. Was nicely powered on the 6.3 to start (underdownhauled as the wind was warm), so had a few alpha attempts on this setup and a few pengos runs to get the heart started. The real wind came in after about 2 hours of sailing - right when the body wants to stop!!! Spent the last hour and a half hanging on for grim death on the 6.3. An awesome workout!!

Nice to catch up with Anita and Sammy. Crossed paths with Lunny a few times, but he must have sailed back up to Carlisle st in the end.

Another day of fun in the sun! Cool

Pelican Point, WA, AU

Turbo 105, 6.0m nocam sail, 32 pointer

Trying to gybe as instructed by Cribby; remembered  that foot change needs to be down-wind, not a second or two later, which made a lot of difference. Just need to keep practising. Good fun on the nocam.

Awsome sailing on the ocean

Unfortunatley had the wrong gear for the location and conditions

Watermans, Kombat 79. Wave Panther 5.8. Thought I would keep off the road and stayed local. Nice little putt around, more water slide than bouncy castle but pretty small slides, although a bit better than last time. Remember to turn the GPS on this time. Noone else out but by the time I had rigged up 4 kites and 1 windsurfer appeared. Plenty of room for us all really. Good time but wind was a bit patchy, seemed to pick up once I packed up.

Super session Jake, and a nice boost up the ladder. You were really flying when I left. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Thanks for the backup Lunny, pity YOU couldn't have stayed longer!

Super speed Jake and good backup Craig and Anita Cool

Glad the kites were manageable, I feared the worst.

Useful NM's too Smile.  You got the best of the wind, it seems.

Thanks JJ!

I wouldn't go as far as Anita in saying the kites were manageable - in fact they were quite dangerous yesterday. My friend Mark and I (Sammy and Lunny too) spent a lot of the time out the back in the sound as a result. Pretty sure Sammy had a run in with one..

I saw Anita almost get cleaned up by a complete gumby in the pond at one stage. He wasn't aware of anyone around him. He was just fixated on untwisting his harness bar and his kite was shifting erratically. Missed Anita's mast by about a foot or two. There were fat dudes boosting lame airs all over the shop without warning (or looking), kites in the water, the works.

I reckon these kiters are akin to those people who drive v8 commodores and burn down every straight bit at 100+kph. They bought it because they thought it would make them look cool. The only time they are concerned with those around them is when they're doing a wheel spin (poo-stance jump), and it's only to make sure they're watching the show. Complete tools. Eventually, you're going to find them stuck in a tree or in an accident. I'd love the see what the kite schools teach, because they quite obviously don't teach any awareness skills. Or maybe the kiters are too thick to pick up on it?

The funny thing is, I didn't see a single one of these polka-dot-pants-wearing show ponies out the back where the real eye-widening runs were happening...

end rant.

They are slowly drifting down the Pinnaroo Point too, and doing their antics.  It often happens that the learners drift through the windsurfing area, and that's understandable,  but lately, advanced kiters started setting up where the windsurfers launch, and doing jumps accross the area we sail.

Given the latest issues down the Cottesloe and Trigg areas it's almost inevitable that we would need some kind of a division. At least during the weekends and public holidays when the congestion is bad.

I suppose the only saving grace is that if they weren’t on kites they’d probably be on jet skis Frown

The Pond full of jet skis would be totally awesome (to use their vernacular) Tongue out
