Harding Rd, Albany, WA, AU

Koncept 6.2, Sonic 56w. Delta 19cm

Thanks Elmo your sacrifice has spread good tidings & wind from Mandurahstan to as far away as Albany Cool

Easterly was in early & knowing the team needed a bit of a bump in kms distance was the main aim today, perfect for a Slowpoke like me. Started with the 6.2 & was nicely powered for the 1st hour or so. Wind continued to build & I was feeling like I was getting overpowered but everyone says you have to get used to that if you want to go fast. So it was time to man up & grow a set plus I'd left the 5.4 at home Embarassed

Tide was good at the beginning but dropped as the day went on. Did find some nice flat by going as far as I could at the town end & then coming out & doing the bearaway towards where we park. Was great fun but I still need a bit of advice on technique & the optimum angle.

Thanks Shane for coming out for a quick blast so the numbers count. Hope you get the board repaired soon as it looked real fast when you got it cranking.

Last 20nm was hard work as I was getting pretty knackered & as soon as I saw the 100nm clock over that was it for me. Great day just needed more company Smile

Cheers

PS looks like you were right about the 6m Sammy Smile Next challenge the CA.

Harding rd Albany , jp speed slalom 55 , np h2 6.2 , 19 delta . My last load at the port and I could see lots of white caps in the harbour and I could see Jeremy was already on the water . Race home to get my gear so I could get on the water by 2 . It was time to drag the new board out which has been in the shed for several months . Arrived at Harding rd with a nice breeze blowing all rigged up ready go turn my gps on it showed half battery. Met Jeremy in the water and sailed up to kiteboarders end and checked the gps and it had turned itself off, some idiot forgot to charge it . Big thanks to Jeremy for the loan of his Canmore gps. New board felt good. We decided to up to the nautical mile run and give it a go. I was checking out my board, turned it over and HELLO there was a big gash in it grrrrrrrrr !!! And that was the end of my day !

Elmo, so great to to have you back in Sesame St....signed Oscar the Grouch.

Shane - what happened, how did you prang/gash the bottom of the  board?

Shane's just sent me some pics,

big scratch

scratch

 gouge close up

Still not real sure about this. It's right in the max load area, under the footstraps. If it was in front of the mast I'd say just bog it, but looks like qyite a few fibres have been cut through, and it's also not that obvious just how deep it is.

I think it should be sanded back to the bottom of the gouge tapering out about 30mm or 40mm at the deepest part. Then fiberglassing or carboning over it. Other wise slaming over chop could open it up, and compress the bottom of the board.

Fangy, Shane told me he didn't feel anything, so I guess it must have been something very sharp. Although the initial impact looks fairly wide.

Very surprising this could happen while riding a board and not noticing it

I didn't want to say anything Shane, mainly cos there are a few kiters hanging around up here too that I might have spoken to...

Look forward to catching up when you are here. ( just wait 'til the muppet heads back to Karrathastan and takes the weather as well)Foot in mouth

Sitting in the shaping bay now with a couple of layers of glass over the hole.

Must admit I'm very impressed by this board's construction, that deep gouge was stopped dead, at the bottom of the d-cell, by a layer of what looks very much like kevlar. It's rock solid still, no sign of any water getting into the board. Looks like Shane's original thoughts are spot on.
