Lake Cootharaba, QLD, AU

Left home at 6 - started raining when I got to Caboolture and rained all the way to Boreen Point so I was a little worried that there wouldn't be any wind - and there wasn't till about 9.30.

I rigged the Helcat 7.2 on the Hawk113 and headed out. Just enough breeze to get on the plane but I got in the way of the Nacra regatta so I went further west towards Elanda and saw Tony out. The wind picked up - very gusty with lots of holes - overpowered and underpowered with nothing in between. Than it rained and the wind dropped out so I thought I would drift down to Elanda to say hi but the wind came back with a vegence and I was overpowered again. Went down to Elanda and saw a few other boards on the water and decided I would go back to Boreen to change down - I struggled to get back upwind so by the time I got there I was pooped. So had a spell - had something to eat and downsized to the Ray95 and Ryde 6.5. Could have put the 5.5 on as by the time I got back out the wind was stronger again.

Decided just to hold on. The water was like a washing machine so was to scary to do any bear aways.

Than the rain came again and took the wind - of course I was on the other side of the lake so dredged all the way back.

Derigged and drove home.

Wanted to do more k's than I did but the weather was being difficult - will be sore tomorrow.

No worries Tony - great figures in the conditions. Must have been tough if the King of the Lake (Andy) didn't go out!!

I just needed the wind to stay in for one more run across the lake and I would have had a distance PB.

Can you stop in at Elanda if you are just there for the day?

I drove into Elands in the morning but it looked like I needed to camp there to launch from there - the groundsman gave me a look.

Lol no worries Tony, I should have stayed down at Elanda tons of sailors down there.  Nice Kms fellas if the conditions were like late Tuesday pretty savage!
