2547 days ago Fangy's : How Fn Good was that, I spent a lot of time visualising last night what need to be done. I visualised being on the TR-9 6.3m and getting overpowered in the strong squally gusts, and saw that I need to rig the TR-XI 5.9m and I would handle that, and it would take me to 42kts. When I arrived it defineitely looked like 6.3m weather for me, but I thought I'm here for a 2 sec PB today, rig the 5.9m and wait for the squalls. I was going to rig two sails, and swap, but too lazy to do that. My first run was 39.8kts, and it felt easy, then after that a string of 37's and 38's, thinking oh no did I f up, not rigging the 6.3m, then the squall arrived, no way I could've hung on the the 6.3m without oversheeting and stuffing it up, the 5.9 was perfect, and just kept going faster and faster, I knew it was a PB, fastest I'd ever gone!! What a sport, I'm 57, and just getting faster with age WooFknHoo

loving the speed board just got to get it locked in properly .
Had a few scary moments in the squalls , as did Ratz trying to sail without the mast connected to the board Good to see the busso boys flying around.
Hope your feeling better soon Roger.

2547 days ago 1 categories Great sail at Glory Holes with the locals and Busselton boys.
Started off cruisey in flatish water ended up in adrenalin mode on small chop.
In anticipation of things to come, I rigged the 5.4, 48cm board and 20cm 40/60deg fin Did the hour with this, not doing many bearaways. had a few small lulls, where I had to pump out of gybes, a few overpowered gusts, when I had to ease of in case I crashed and stuffed the hr altogether. Then I had the wind swing a bit more northerly on my way back up hill. slowed that run right down, and I couldn't get far enough away from the shore to get a gybe in, so had to hop off and swing the board around. If it wasn't for that run may have been a PB. That's hours I guess, that's a lot of time for stuff to go wrong. I was lucky that the wind stayed very sailable for the whole hour.
(EDIT) just checked the numbers, and if the wind hadn't shifted on me it would be a #2 hr, wouldn't quite have made a PB.
After a bit of a rest, wind was picking up and tide coming in, not so flat anymore! So I changed to the 20cm 48d weedy, this fin has less area, and settled the board down a bit, but I was still tailwalking in the gusts in the chop. So then moved the mast track forward a cm or so, That settled it even more and gave me a bit more confidence to go for it in the gusts. Until one lifted me off the water and slamned me down! Got a bit nervous again after that, and contented myself watching Stretch in flight across the chop, looked like he was courting disaster but it wasn't worrying him.
Here's my tracks
Here's the watch numbers.
2s 34.497, 5x10 32.820, 1hr 24.356, @ 22.263, NM 29.509, dist 74.79
HMMMM so the difference in alphas is because the watch has the 22.263 at 50m and the GW52 has the same alpha at 51m and 22.318. Bummer

Epic day out at Fangland !! Great to see so many guys with the hammer down today some true speed sailing going down. Best speeds were with the Missile 49 and the FF20 would of loved to get this combo over 40 but by the time the best conditions were on i had already sailed 140kms and just ran out of energy.

2547 days ago Fangy's JP45 TR16 5.9 MXR20 speedweed Delta 17 then MXR20
A session learning about Fangy's , board fin sail combo and how remarkably quickly Stroppo sails.
The GPs this data came from was off when I finished. My second has had a write protected card since Oct. Had a big crash, that may have been when the card in my hard hat turned off.
Board never felt stable off the wind. My first gybe felt great, looking forward to seeing it on GPSR at the end of the week. I think I should limit my 45 to 5.5 unless water is perfectly flat. 54 or M91would have felt more stable and given me more confidence, whether I would have been faster I will never know.

2546 days ago 1 categories Sunshine and rainbows. Good bunch out a Fangys.
My effort ended early with a broken boom head and a long walk back. Was just relieved not to be injured or broken more gear in such a big stack.
Was fun while it lasted. And big congrats to all who did well today.

BTW, anybody got an old Niel Pryde boom with a good head that they don't need any more?
