Liptons and Point Grey, about 18 to 23kts, gusting to 25kts late afternoon.  Bit of fun, flat water runs were either very short, or with thick heavy weed and with a lot of drag, felt there was enough wind for 38's??  Got it so good but the tendency is always to want more and betterEmbarassed. Fangyland, Vintage Windtech, Koncept 6.6, FF20 & FF24, with Scott Malone initially and eventually Fin, Millpond, Cap’n Calm, Basil, and Stroppo came out to play too.

I had decided that with the weed banks having been decimated by Boz, I should try once more to master the old Windtech while there was still some smooth left.  The board is 54 wide and has a custom carbon floppy tail and previously I have given up in frustration trying to ride it.  The forecast was for a decent sea breeze and so I went for the small stuff: Koncept 6.6 and a FF20.  Unfortunately, just as I finished rigging Millpond arrived and I knew then I was going to be in trouble. But being too lazy to change, I went out anyway. It was a serious struggle to get clear of Tug’s Hole. And just to be sure I was not comfy, Cap’n Calm rolled the Commode onto the grass at S-bend and I knew then I was in underpowered grovelworld.

After a geological epoch had passed I made it up to the top end. The wind filled in a bit and I was able to get planing. The Studio54 proved that making friends was not it’s forte. In my hands, it also proved to be very unforgiving when trying to gybe successfully. The floppy tail has me in two minds. The board is surprisingly good in the chop, but when faced with my bounty of my kegs on its tail, it simply bogs down when gybing unless all my weight is through the mast foot. Anything less than total commitment to weight forward and the board stops like a stone.

Harvesting some smooth off the wind, the  Studio54 FF20 combo was a different story. In bugger all breeze I got a 35.7 max. The whole package felt lively and fast. So, of course I decided to change things to see if I could make it worse.

I did that successfully by dropping in the FF24 just as the breeze picked up to decent. The Studio54 was utterly tamed by the FF24. Upwind and gybing was far better, but the downhill it was dreadfully slow by comparison. Adjusting everything at different times was then the plan for the rest of the day. I discovered the mast foot position has a sweet spot that is painfully small and eventually I think I had it all dialled in. Grabbing a truck load of weed under the leading edge didn't help the speed slide of the equation, but I am happy I tried all the setting variables for future reference.

With the board sorted the only thing left to concede was that Swindy is right. I really need to design a FF22. The FF20 was too small, and the FF24 too big. The Party Barge never feels over finned, but the relative lightweight Studio54 was keen to try and fly when using the FF24 at speeds above 32 knots. As a result I am now really keen to see how Swindy’s FF24 -> 22 mod fares.

Having mastered the Studio54, sort of, Defo a Top Ten Day :-)

Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU. Falcon113/CA52, FW7.0. Fun sail in a good breeze with Lachy, Rat, Slugger and a few others out. Pulled the pin a bit early, I reckon there was a couple more knots to be had if I changed down and got the late wind.

Great sail with Max, went early to give him some lighter winds so I rigged big, decided to go for the hour.

Started out using the 102 rrd x fire with a 23 muf delta but was a bit too choppy for that so bolted in a 29 Mxr ufo And that was better. Stretch did the decent thing and packed up which gave me a few extra knots of wind.

Joined Fangy, Fin, Morts and strop at Sbend, wind wasn't quite there, so rigged the 5.8 and plugged into the 48 with filetted 20cm@55d. Plan being to change to smaller board and fin when the wind picked up. Well it did pick up, but not enough to make me want to change boards. The 19cm fin would have been a better choice towards the end of the session, but it didn't seem worth bothering about.

Basil joined us out there after a while, and looked to be going well.

Strop, Morts and I explored NM alternatives now that the boundary island end of the outer bank has vanished. following the shore from about 3/4 of the way along Creery Island worked as long as the wind let you go broad enough. My 2nd best was the inside run from inside the gybe markers to past the S bend, this include double jumps over the Wednesday nets, I keep foregetting about Wednesdays.

Tabou Manta 54, NP RSR E7 7.0m, Pepe weed 23.5cm

In hindsight I probably should've used a bigger board as the winds were GAF for getting the wee beastie going but it was fun when it did.

Had some fun over at Pt Grey where the wind wasn't quite getting into where we wanted even though I did get a few nice squirts over there.

Later I ventured into the corner bombing through the yellow snot with Yoyo where I got my peak speeds, seemed to be the fastest area but a mongrell for getting out of there with the snot burgs and deep weed.

Wind picked up a bit toward the end making the run across the channel interesting, especially with the added bonus of boat wakes from the cock knockers in their stink boats.

Best winds Ii've had since last summer (it shows), Great fun sailing with Hardz Sammy and Yoyo

6.2 Koncept, Sonic 85L + FF20

Heard Swindy was concocting a cunning plan to steal my hour JB, so within the hour I was in Mandurah to foil that plan. Lets see him even get going when Millpond is on site to kill the wind! mwahaha

Fun afternoon sail with a few of the Mob and Glenn. Still working out where to go but found some big bits of smooth to enjoy & the NM at the end was great fun. Even got to see Mike do a forward loop when he came back into shore, does it still count when your feet are not in the straps?

The hybrid 22 will be there tomorrow without fail. Unless millpond, captain calm and stretch turn up with their speed boards there should be enough to give it a run.

Actually if you want people to retain the infomation better, then using an uneven font like comic sans is far more effective than a uniform one like Ariel.

Your stories could live on forever in peoples minds, quietly (not so) obliterating rational thought one Top Ten Fangy Day at a timeSmile
