iS111, 6.2 Koncept 24 FF

I have been saying that my gybing was improving, now I have a PB to prove it! Today my gybes felt better controlled than ever before., The gybes on starboard tack still need a lot of work, but even those were better than ever before, and I did not drop one! I did drop a few on port tack but I made progress during the session and made a critical breakthrough. Not bouncing over chop allows one to work out other things that are happening. Toward the end of the session I did some lovely fully planing gybes that made me very happy, because I have been trying for those for a long time. I would have liked to have kept going but I was fatigued by then and thought I had better save some energy for another big day at work tomorrow.

Fangy said to bring the big board because the wind was light, and when I arrived it was - averaging 15 - 16 kn. As I made my way up to the top of the nm run the wind picked up and I was only just hanging on across the wind at times. I managed to hang on long enough to get an hour in, but unfortunately chose a lull to make my downwind run for the nm.

It was after the nm run just in front of where the cars were parked that I made my best gybes. I really like that feeling of planing right around and not slowing down too much! I hope I can remember how to do that again next time! Given that I was using my slowest board, that 20 knot alpha I have been trying for for a long time may not be too far off.

I did 5 gybes today that would have made it into my top 5 list, so the PB was not a fluke. The minimum speeds were my best ever and considering the peak speed in the alpha was only 22 knots, I am happy with an 18 +overall.

You might think I am going on about this, but for someone as athletically challenged and uncoordinated as I am, a planing gybe has been a real challenge. One that I thought was almost unachievable at times. I have been working towards them for years. Now I think that 20 knot alpha (my goal in windsurfing) might be doable after all.

DEFINITELEY a top ten Fangy day! My best session of the year...

Decided to try out the 5.5 Tr7 sail after a long time sitting in the garage up for sale. A bit more twitchy than the overdrive but heaps of power in the gusty frontal type winds of today. Might hang onto the sail.

Melville Beach, WA, AU That was fun. Melville nearly turned it right on but just didn't quite get there. Tide was good, wind has some push even though it was a bit shifty and typically gusty. Plenty of crew out, Mark, Nick, Tim all smashing out some good numbers. It could have been a real doozy of a day, so close...I blame the clouds. Towards the end I could have done with a springy. I really wanted the 100 club badge so stayed out and grovelled until 6.

Some great conditions and company today with Boz, Jase and Tim all lining up runs over the bar. Went faster on the Manta 98lt than the smaller 88lt, as it carried through the lulls. Vapor 6.4 wp 27

First sail for the year, bit of fun with the boys at Melville good turn out of Pinnas, nearly turned out to be a epic day but the wind started to back off a bit after a couple of warm up runs accross the bank, good to see everyone sending it down the bank but did start to get congested had to abort a couple runs but was a lot of fun, the manta 59 and KAR 6.3 such a great combo.

Did my usual Tour de Swan. Chop was hectic, winds so shifty it took about 6 tacks to Pt Walter which was a doldrum. Should have done a few runs at Melville but had to go.

I arrived as everyone else was leaving, luckily they hadnt used up all the wind and there was just enough to have a little fun.

Powered up most of the time and flatish.

Nice one Captain!

Kenny getting efficient on the small gear is certainly working for you.

Jase I have just had a look at your tracks that is one insane centuary you scored there, your NM had 2 gybes and most of the runs were about 700m in length, that is amazing well done

Thanks everyone! Encouragement is a great thing. I know that 20 kn alpha is still not going to be easy and lots of work will be required.

It is nearly two years since my last alpha PB.

Jase, great work on the distance PB! That's a lot of spaghetti back and forth across the sandbar - lots of tacks and gybes.

Great work, team, with some very respectable scores posted today.

Yay! Well done Anita especially as you haven't been getting much practise in! An 18+ alpha with that top speed is good going..It's addictive isn't it? I'm torn between wanting to improve my gybes in chop or going in flatwater where I know I can experience that lovely planing arc..Tongue out

Thanks ladies, and Oaf! Sue, no speedsailing practice, but there has been enough wind for practicing gybes.

I am feeling very tired and a bit sore today

Well done Anita. Even better than looks as you were using a 6.2m sail which at your feather weight has to be considered a big sail.
