6.5m Turbo - WT57 ( 90ltres) - 28cms WT weedy
then 5m gator - 24cms Stealth WT weedy - WT57
then 5.7m gator - 24cm - 90
More stuffing around than sailing. The strongest E-NE I've sailed at Coal since I got back into it and I'm still figuring out gear choices.
I don't like it when I'm too powered up to risk going to Carey and have to stay out the front.
Rigged the favourite combo 6.5m - 90 to get out early for some fun before it kicked in but it was already at the top for that combo. I managed ok but I was nervous and didn't really enjoy it. 2 sec with that.
Stuffed all bar one gybe as I was too nervous to have a go. The one I got was the most overpowered one .
Started rigging the 5.7m but Gert said it had picked up and he was fine with the 5m. Rigged that and it was a slogfest . I went all the way to Swansea hoping for enough wind but only just got going a few times.
I rested in the shallows next to a tinny that was anchored. A guy who looked like MickB ( from a distance) was in the water cleaning the hull??.
Anyway I took off and I could hear yelling. I thought it was Mick and the wind was gusty and patchy and I was trying not to fall in. I yelled ' can't hear you - got my hands full".
Then I felt a pull on my leg and realised I had a fishing line around my leg. Lucky it was dodgy and I hadn't gone off at full speed or the hook would have got me. I untangled it and said I was ok.
Back in and rigged the 5.7m. Much better , powered up but the WT was getting too fast for the choppy conditions. I'd detuned it with max tailflex, mastfoot forward and a fin that was a bit small but it was still over the top.
Sailing downwind in the lulls and upwind in the strong stuff. I did a few bearaways but it was too choppy and on the edge.
It was really time for the waveboard. By now the wind was more NE and you had to drift out to the windline to waterstart so starting was tiring too.
The wingers were complaining re the gusty wind and heaps of weed.
Tony and Paul on the foil , about 7 wingers , a moth Gert , Lajos , me and a young guy on fins.
I really need to forget about speed when it's rough , rig down and get into perfecting my gybes.
