Mission to check it out and have a few speed runs at the spit. Good fun, but my fitness was found lacking. Started on the 5.2m with IS80 slalom board and almost cracked a 39 peak. Had a few runs and decided it was enough wind for the speed board. Cracked a couple of 39 peaks on the speedy, but missed the magic 40. I measured the wind at 20-28 with the odd very brief gut just touching 30, so that is about what I can get from that when I am not match fit. Runs were pretty short as the best wind was just for the first 100m right at the end of the spit. Further down the little bit of tussock on the spit slightly reduced the wind. The wind angle at SSE was pretty close to ideal.
Saw 3 SA guys at the 5 mile doing long laps accross the lake. Didnt look smooth, but also not massive chop. Thay said it was flatter than Boggy Lake.
Got to the spit and found Jimbob flying around on his favourite freeride gear having a blast.
Tony did a couple of nice speed runs behind the spit after have a look around Kevs Bay.
Called it a wrap after a dozen or so runs to save something for tomorrow.
The water level is quite high for this time of the year, but great for short speed runs behind the spit. Not really any really flat water anywhere else yet that I could see.
IS80 with Nuclear 20cm, then CA40 with Nuclear 16cm. 5.2m 2023 KA Race.
