Area 45, Mahers Landing, VIC, AU

A bit less wind tonight with more of a play and more sailors to play with.

Its been an excellent run of wind but rest time tomorrow with the wind backing off. Really happy with the new sails and I,m starting to explore different settings to get the most out of what I want. The run of the same conditions have helped heaps. Now to think about some new fin sizes Tongue out

Area 45 Inverloch.

The fifth or 6th day in a row of strong ESE winds! We have not had that for many years. And looks like it's on again today (Tuesday). Surprised

Got there and tried to take some wind measurements but it was all over the place. from 15-20kts to 25 at times. Decided the wind would probably kick a bit late on so I went with the 5.2m and IS55W. I wanted to try the old Time Machine 26cm 'Alpha' pointer fin as well as there is almost no weed at A45.

I found myself very underpowered, strugging to get planning at all most of the time so after a few runs and no sign of the wind increasing, I decided to bite the bullet do a rig and board change. Came in and rigged an old 2010 5.7m KA Koncept, just to see how it went, and took the IS60 slalom board.

The wind did actually filled in a bit while I was on shore, but it was still fine with the 5.7m.

The sail was very Interesting!  Lets just say it struck me very starkly how far we progressed with the KA sails over the next 13 or so years. It was still a nice sail, but the way it worked was quite different. I used a lot more downhaul and outhaul to stabilise it than I ever used in the past (probably never used it in this wind range before), and set like that it felt nice but not very powerful or fast. The newer sails could be set with more twist and deeper lower profile to be very stable and much more powerful in that wind range. When you make incremental changes, it's not so obvious from year to year, but when looking at a 15 year gap, it is very obvious. It was fun, and very informative, but I think this sail can go back into retirement in the shed again. Laughing

A few of the usual suspects blasting around again, but many MIA?

Looks like it will be a bit lighter today, but the best tide is getting quite late. I love daylight saving!! Got home at 8.45pm - still light! Laughing

Initially, 5.2m KA speed, IS55W, TM26 Alpha fin. Then 2010 5.7m KA koncept, 2016 IS60, Atomic Nuclear 20cm. Motion GPS.
