4.6m KA Koncept - 80ltre Isonic - 20cms Atomic
Bleedin terrifying in the gusts! I'm happy with the 2 sec considering it was so full on.
I was the 1st out with Richard? freeriding. I got there early as it was supposed to strengthen after lunch.
The 1st strong wind sail since I've been diagnosed with osteoporosis so safety was the brief. It would have been epic if we had any flatwater.
It was a bit patchy at 1st so I was going to rig the 5m Mach but I'd left it at home.. I rigged the 4.6m thinking I'd be underpowered.
I chose the Isonic as it has more volume in the tail and I thought there would be flatwater and it would be better in the lulls. It's been a few years since I've used it and it had hornets nests in the finbox.. . I had to make the footstraps bigger once I got down the bottom so I could get in and out easily.
Lucky I went with the 4.6m.. At least I managed to rig it so it rotated this time. The KA pulleys don't line up but I used the Powerex extension and it had minimal crossover.
Spincter clenching going for it in the 10cm chop "flatwater" and surviving the gusts in the 15cms chop. Crouched right down in survival mode to avoid being thrown over the front.
I couldn't find any flatwater. I was rounding up and stepping off in the strongest stuff , no gybe attempts. Playing it safe as I can't afford a stack.
RS1 would have been better in the rough stuff. The iso bounces through it while the narrower Excocet slices through.
I was a bit disappointed with my lack of energy and had a lot of rests. When I got in the max heartrate was 195 bmp so maybe tiredness was expected..
I was feeling a bit of a whoose thinking it was terrifying but spoke to Greg K and he said he'd done 38kts ( by then) and it was terrifying so that made me feel better.
I didn't enjoy it when I was out there but I'm still on an adrenaline high I survived..phew..
I was happy to get in and pack up.
Everyone else arrived and it swung and died although it may have come up later. Hopefully the Sw tomorrow will be more sedate and there will be some flatwater.
