Got to Southport late and according to the locals I just missed the wind. Went down to Sheearwater to check it and there was still some breeze left so I joined in the mayhem. Dozens of kites, a couple windsurfers, plenty of boats and one huge manta ray in the channel. Had fun practising gybes and tacks.

Hope the hierarchy in the gps world are happy now that our results have been deleted. It only seems to be a problem when we get good results. Our Garmin watches have been tested against aviation technology and were spot on. I'd rather have one of these then a plastic bag around my hand. I simply go sailing with my Garmin watch and unfortunately get numbers that certain people don't like. I don't use 3 or 4 devices then go home and upload all of them to numerous software packages and pick and choose the best number then post. Hey, just saying See you on the water some time Cheers Leo sharpe AUS 840

I know that you both feel annoyed at this action. I believe it is an attempt to keep the gps team challenge on some sort of level footing even though this is clearly impossible in regards to the different conditions that everyone sails in. The one thing that can be controlled is the approved devices that are acceptable for use. There was discussion last year about the use of watches and it was decided to allow your last years data to stand but I believe you were asked to change to an approved unit. I didn't know about this current action but it is inline with the cancelling of a nsw sailors' session who was using a phone. Anne Lewis GPTC COMMITTEE MEMBER

Sharpey I feel your angst however we're talking using x1 device and if your pushing records then x2 devices. Trade your Garmin in for an approved device and then you can post with a smile on your dial:-)

I'll put this proposition to you. How would YOU like to keep a reasonable level playing field for GPS capable devices? Would you like to volunteer your time and effort into making this GPS Team Challenge community workable?

I enjoy the sport, it's a bonus I can share my results via KA72 (another volunteer of time and effort that I am forever grateful to:-)
