Tough day at Port Sorell 20 to 40 kts gusty but good fun this is the first blow for 5 or 6 weeks. Most of the top guns have gone down to Henty to get some real speed in flat water and big wind. Sailed with Jason, Tom, Bear and Paul so not a big crowd.

ISonic Proto 50, Ka 5.8 Venom 26

Good to meet you Paul cranking off some really sweet gybes will have to get you on some speed gear.

Cant help but think how Jessica Watson is going out there in the thick of it.

Wind direction was good but a bit up and down. Powered up in the gusts but underpowered the rest of the time. Good to get out on a small sail.

henty river, the wind was too broad at first making it quite choppy, it then move to the west a little which suited me because it flattened off,the wind also eased when this happened.had a good day and glad to get a pb with a 40.well done dave you ledgened, and izaak on your pbs.

Interesting day at Port Sorell Wind was quite inconsistent. I spent too much time changing rigs and boards. Good fun though, worth the drive up. Best combo IS 101 Loft Blade 6.8 36 venom.

last time on my recent gear, went down to Henty river and was a good sail, even though i was nicely powered up i needed more to get going.it was choppy witch made it hard for me but anyway 2pbs im happy.i had 38.4 on the screen but just pulled up a little too soon aaarrrgghhh.my new gear arrives this week coming cant wait the 5.5 would of been perfect today, got a jp speed 45 and NP evo 2 4.7/5.5 with mast ect all thanks to SHQ sponsoring me.tried my new fin today it felt sic its a ka lockwood assy 20cm.the run has grown to 1.1km but the direction we had we were only using around 650m,with rain over winter it could or should get to a NM length.

got my Carbon art 44 for sale if anyone is interested.

i took this shot while on the way walking back up the run.

Four trips to Henty now and every trip I've managed 40+ (and I think Perks has), which is pretty amazing as we still haven't had it really windy.

Today started off pretty marginal.  I rigged both my 6.5 and 5.6 CR's, but sailed the 6.5 the whole time, except the last two runs to see how the 5.6 felt (wind had died out by then, so nothing special).  Used my new (1 yr old) iSonic Speed W49 for the first time in speed conditions with my C3 Venom 26.  The board and fin felt great.  My fastest runs felt locked in and all I wanted was more wind.  Managed a 42.37 on the dial, but this dropped back to 41.75 once calculated (whew, 0.04 knots above Perks!!!).  Very happy with the 5x10.  All I can say is if we get more wind at this spot we will go a heap quicker.  All runs today were cruising.  A little disconcerting with less than knee deep water for the majority of the run!!  However, great to get the cars all the way in today!!  That made it so much better.

Well done to everyone on their PB's today, especially Izaak.  You were totally in control and just needed more wind.  A 40 for you is not far away!!!!

Cannot wait to get back to Henty again - maybe one day we'll get some proper wind!!!!  I reckon we maybe had gusts to 25knots?

Brilliant numbers there guys, well done to everyone who got a pb. Glad to see you got some wind at last, it seems ages since I have seen you get a good day.

I look forward to seeing what you can do with the new kit Izaak. I hope you are not becalmed in the same way we are at present. What do you weigh Izaak? As a relative lightweight (70kg) I find it interesting to see what works well for lighter sailors!

hi events,

i weigh 65kg and i am pretty efficient in light winds on my 6.3 from 13-23 knots then after that i would probably change down to 5.5 to go from winds 23-30,then after that its 4.7 30+ knots wind.i think for me it comes down to what board i have under my feet in what wind there is,if i went on the 6.3 and speed board i can hold on to it in a bit more wind and so on.yesterday it was not that windy only 25-28 and was not quite powered up on the 5.0 so really should of rigged 5.5 if i had it, but had 5.8,this would of been a better choice and i think i could of pushed high 38's maybe low 39's.but too lazy.i was not too fussed it was just good to get a pb and a sail.40 is possible for me its just a matter of what location, and more wind.another thing i found out was the smaller fin will give me a bigger wind range.

well done team great numbers,

thanks guys

0.04 in front of Perks, amazing. Looks like you 2 guys are in a great battle for the top 2 sec in Tassie. Fantastic top speeds considering it wasnt super windy. I am chomping at the bit to get to Henty, it drives me crazy every time you guys get up there with out me. Izaak, you are right if it keeps getting longer it might be the place for NM. This Wed is looking really windy.

Yeah, sorry about that Perks!!  At least first to 42 is still up for grabs!!  I reckon just about any speed is possible at this spot now.  The run is long, the angle yesterday was great and it's just a matter of getting that wind strength up.  When I tried my 5.6 at the end of the day, it felt pretty small compared with the 6.5 I'd been sailing all day, but I still managed runs of 38 and 39 knots very effortlessly in the flat water at the perfect angle.

I must say, it is the guys who have gone before, reaching 45 and now 50 knots, that give one confidence that nothing (necessarily) is going to suddenly happen if you go over a certain speed (such as cataclysmic wipeout).  I must also say Henty would have to be the most easy speed sailing spot to sail with the shore on either side so close and being able to now park right next to the luanch area and to rig on grass!!

Sausage, no that's not it, that's Little Henty.  It has potential, but even harder (almost impossible) to get to!!!

Henty is just south of Little Henty!!  Here are my tracks.  You can see the edge of the speed run from where we were walking back up the course.  My best 10 sec runs were all a bit past half way down the run.  The run also continues further, but it was too shallow.  Even as it was when we were finishing the run ot was less than knee deep.  However, interestingly the 'tide' or what ever it is had the water level rise about 20 cm I reckon, making it much safer and a better run near the end of the day than when we got their in the morning.  I'll post another GE image in a minute that will get people thinking ...

Dave,

You reckon anyone would notice if you took a big excavator in there and dug out an extra 2 km long channel.  Shit does anyone actually live within 200km of this placeWink

Get Gunns to sponsor the  team - they seem to be able to move mountains literally (a little speed strip should be child's play).

PS - does it get cold down there?Wink

It gets very cold!!!  Winter wetsuit (4/3) that day!!  First time it hasn't hailed while sailing there, got some good downpours though.  Wednesday's forecast is looking quite a bit better than Saturday's (windier), but I don't reckon anyone will make it back down there again so soon.  Be good to plan to stay there for a few days or a week!!  There are other areas that can be sailed in Macquarie Harbour on different directions.
