A good test for the new board. Got going on the first run ( nm) but ended up a bit more downwind than I wanted . I wanted to be above the point in case it turned more N.Slogged up above the point missing some of the better wind . Pretty patchy probably 20% planing. If I bore off I could get going but the gusts were so short I'd often be out the other side by the time I was planing.
The board has a nice soft comfy ride. I haven't touched the tail yet as I want to get used to it and the chop hasn't been big enough.
I've moved the footstraps closer together as Neil suggested and left them in a wider stance than normal. I got one well powered up upwind tack and it felt fantastic. The board really gets fun when you ease it off the wind a bit....
I'd been out for 3hrs mostly subplaning and I was buggered , had a headache and a stiff neck so I decided I'd go in. I caught the first decent wind of the day for the reach in..Wow! I haven't yee haad for a while but it was such a hoot!
Turned around and made the body go back out and do it again..I didn't get the puff that time but it was still fun. I can see I'll be going upwind more so I can have a run and get that feeling again. very addictive.
The chop wasn't that big - c 1ft so it will be interesting to see how it is powered up in bigger chop.
It might be the way I've got it set up but I find bearing off the RS4 it often feels like an aircraft carrier and glued to the water.. the nose seems to want to slow me down going over/into the backs of waves. The WT64 with it's length and volume in the nose just rises over the chop.
I'm going to have a ball with this board once I get decent wind!
Andrew, Greg and Gert on the foils, Lajos did one run before I started. Someone else with a windwing.
The lake is much emptier now the holidays are over.
