Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU

a very short slapper session for me due to my wifes uncanny ability to pick the windy days

to organize stuff i just have to do.

all without looking at a weather forcast(i think)

was still enjoyable though blasting through the chop

good to catch up with mike, peter flex and busso dave

used a 107 iso with a 33 tribal ws and a 7.0 severne R8 was a trifle overcooked in the gusts but didnt have the time to change down.

Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU CA66 Mistral speed 95 tws 31 fangy 22 tr7 5.9 koncept 5.0 Frontal winds with lighter breezes and the odd strong gusts. Too much for the big gear and undercooked in the lighter stuff with the smaller gear. Or am I just being picky in my old age? In any case I just couldn’t get my ducks in a row today. Enough whining, it was good sailing with Decrepit, Flex, Dave and Ratz. We launched from the kiters end today as there was a lot of south in it and hung around there mostly. The breeze wasn’t consistent enough for a decent NM and too choppy for speed. Tide went down really quickly but was still lumpy in the squalls. The breeze started to die down at the end of the day and as I had the big gear rigged thought I’d try for an alpha and after two or three runs a brutal squall came in and that as they say was that. Topped it all off by doing the walk of shame back as I was trashed. All in all a pretty good day, better than no wind at all that’s for sure.😀👍

sort of fun session At G.H. with Waricle, Rats, Flex and Dave from OMN.

More later.

OK it's later, and upon reflection, I think circumstances combined to aid me. My ancient slowness meant I didn't actually get to launch the big stuff, (55cm board, 6.2 koncept and 25cm@40/60 fin), before the others came in to changge down. So by the time I had rigged the 5.2 on the 48cm board with 23cm@40/60 the wind had eased back a tad and chop had reduced to a more decrep friendly size. I probably could have used the 5.7 and gone a bit faster, because I never had too much with the 5.2. but there was still enough to keep me planning in the lulls.

Only 37km and I'm still a bit sore today, I obviously need more TOW, hopefully conditions will start to improve in the next month or so.

Nah Ratz, the kiters were cool, I think they enjoyed the company. Great rigging spot by the way.

Too lazy to get my GPS out of the trailer, but all you really need to know is that I smashed The Scud... probably.Tongue out

High water and strong breeze on the home patch today. It looked better than it actually was, with the wind just a bit too west to allow for any longer runs in the slightly less lumpy stuff. That said, I am bloody impressed with The Scud 5x10's as I reckon they were all pretty much broad reaches rather than any dedicated bear- away action. That surgery he had to remove his self preservation instinct seems to be working a treat. My memory of yesterday will be dominated by the vision of The Scud with the tightest freckle known to man in the extreme poo stance, going past me and heading for home. There went a fella whose face told the story of staring into the abyss of 'this is all going to go terribly wrong in a split second".  I am still amazed at how it didn't.

I had my first outing on the Avalon 6.3. Single cam and criminally easy to rig. On water, like the 7.0,  it has a stonkin' bottom end. The end result was I could not sheet in at all, I was just simply too over powered and despite maximum downhaul settings I never got remotely comfy, even in the lulls. That said, I am really keen to give this sail a crack in 5 knots less wind. I think its low end pull should be enough to get my carcass up and going in the bog standard sea breeze where I would normally use a 7.0.
